Default Idea - Fighting: Fist to... Whatever.

I think it'd be awesome if you could parry blades and other weapons with your forearms if you wore iron or steel gauntlets or whatever.

I'd be dancing all over the place n'stuff.

In seriousness sounds cool but if we have then there has to be a way to defeat it like this.

Japan used copper for armor, and gauntlets are for protecting the hands, besides if you got hit with a blunt weapon you'd be out of it (broken arm, messed up joint etc.). Besides the gauntlets would only hinder your movement, and you'd have better luck going for the arms, so I'd have to say no.

Not really lots of dudes made a kote (gauntlet) from solid iron to catch swords. Hachigane iron, tsuba (sword guards) iron. So I wouldn't say that.

I dont doubt your knowledge on any of this, but I just want to let you know a real samurai sword can cut threw most metals, hence why there blades never smashed into one another and they just let the blades slide off one another, now with what your saying it would work because if you do it right you could angle it so that my blade slides down your shielded forearm however if your leg or any other part of your body is in the way when it slides down you might just want to considerate lost.

A way to counter his iron gauntlets would be to turn my blade last second when he is getting ready to parry it so that my blade goes straight at the gauntlet instead of just sliding down it and being miss directed. Could be a combo that has to be timed very carefully.

If you dont understand what im talking about pm me or post in here ill try to explain it better right now im running off 3 hours of sleep and stressing about finals so I hope you can bare with me.

if u change the direction of blade while swinging, it loses its momentum, so even if it would hit the gauntlet the damage would be scratch like.

well samurai's dont swing, they slice so the moment is very difficult to get rid of because when changing direction simply by quickly dropping into a horse stance and sucking my elbows into my stomach I can regain what I have lost, however I have never tried this against a gauntlet it works well against a katana. =)

Hope I dont sound rude=)

if u change the direction of blade while slicing (corrected), it loses its momentum, so even if it would hit the gauntlet the damage would be scratch like.

(i know my physics and especially how to hit/slice with japanese sword)

I do not doubt your knowledge I have also studied most of the skills of ninjutsu and with in there they taught us the basics of using a katana. By mixing the principles of ninjutsu with the teachings of the samurai, you can counter the loss of momentum simply by bending your body quick in another direction, if you dont believe me try it out for your self I guarantee it will work.

Also im taking physics right now in college and boy oh boy I have no idea what im learning-_- how boreing! not to mention I just plan dont get it, martial arts teaches you to ignore the impossible, and think of only self preservation. Well ninjutsu that I was being taught, taught me that lol, probably not good standards to live by in this day and age.

when an samurai or person who is attacking with the sword makes body (atleast torso) movement (if not then the effect would be of what i previously wrote), it will be far slower than the speed of the gauntlet hand which would simply block it again.

and.. they taught u to "ignore the impossible" in ninjutsu..?

btw i have trained iaido almost year..
