Default USA's November Elections

Alright, someone was going to make this thread sooner or later. I'm just curious where the community of Tatsumaki stands on the elections for the US president that is coming up in less than two months. You've seen or read all about it in American news, at least - there is no escaping it. Even if you're not American, feel free to post in this thread. The opinions of non-Americans are just as interesting, and offer new insight and differing perspectives to what is the biggest drama in the US right now. Just post your native nation and give your opininion. C'mon, it'll be fun.

I'll start it off. I'm a citizen of the United States of America, and I've always considered myself to be a moderate with a slight conservative bend. I'm registered as an independent. For me, "the race" was decided right before the GOP convention, with the announcement of McCain's vice president - Sarah Palin. Before that point, I was hoping McCain would stop sucking up to the Republican party (wishfully hoping his actions for the last six years were a charade to gain the Republican nomination), and choose a fellow like Joe Lieberman as his running mate. It would have kicked ass.

Instead, he chose Sarah Palin. This woman can only be described as "batshit insane", or possibly "delusional neoconservative" (a bit redundant, I know). I wouldn't say such malicious things without support though, so here is a few of her best moments:

*Claims to be against lobbying and earmarks, yet landed her small town of 6,700 residents twenty-nine million dollars in earmarks during her time as governor. For those of you not familiar with such matters, that is a hell of a lot of money for such a small town.

*Think about Bush's environmental policies for a moment. Now, attempt to imagine a woman so neoconservative that she is actually sueing the Bush administration over such a policy - the listing of polar bears as an endangered species. That's right - polar bears.

*At one point as governor, Palin walked into a local library. She then proceeded to ask the librarian the proper process Palin would have to go through to get certain books banned. Let that one just sink in for a moment.

*This last one might be a bit controversial, as it deals with abortion. Still, I found it frightening enough that I felt it should be posted here. Some people feel abortion is wrong, even in the first trimester. While I personally disagree, I can at least respect those sorts of views. Palin wants to take it a step further. She wants no abortions at all - even in cases of incest, rape, or the endangering of the mother's life. Hell, could be a combo of all three of those conditions and Palin wouldn't give a rat's ass about that poor victim. Furthermore, she wants to give doctors, nurses and others the right to refuse to give people abortions at all.

Needless to say, I now feel morally obligated to vote against the McCain ticket. How anyone can possibly support people like that is beyond me. I do not feel that Obama is a strong candidate for president, though I admire his charisma. However, I will vote for Obama this coming November just to make sure I do my part to keep those draconian candidates out of office. I'd feel absolutely terrible if McCain won my state's popular vote because I didn't vote for the lesser of two evils.

Woof, finished my rant. Kudos to anyone who can actually stomach reading the entire thing. Now, what are your thoughts on the candidates of the presidential race?

ill put in my two cents about politics. I am much to busy with other things i do to follow up and read and know and understand what it is abotu each canidate and their views and ect.

so call me unamerican but that is the very reason i am not registered to vote. I refuse to cast a ballot as a random guess because i know absolutly nothing about politics and if my vote counts, i want it to count for what i know about politics which is for now; nothing

Awww. Out of curiosity, why is it off limits?

As for Selmo... I can respect that position. The country would be a better place now if people unfamiliar with the issues did not vote. However, you know me, and I'm your buddy. I think you should register and vote for whom I tell you to vote for.

I try to avoid politics. Nothing every seems right. The candidates slander each other to make themselves look good. Promises that never come true. There doesn't seem to be anything positive. Do I have too high standards for the people running my country?

I also feel that American politics isn't about the good of the country. It's just another sport. People are more concerned that their side wins instead of what happens because of it.

I have to agree with Sun on this one. I guess I am too jaded to give a well-thought opinion. I went and saw Obama speak at my school last year and he is a great public speaker. McCain is a great war hero. I don't care for either VP candidate. I thought Bill Richardson (D) from New Mexico had some good ideas but I guess I was the minority on that one. Hilary Clinton scares me.

I am reminded of an episode of south park where they lose their school mascot and have to vote for another one. The choices are similar here.

SunWuKong, the second half of your post I agree with very much. However I must say that the Democrats were extremely civil, even nice, in their comments about John McCain at their NC. One of the issues that I'm most concerned about is John McCain dying before the election is over. By the way has a nominee ever died before the end of the election? Also about Sarah Palin, of course she's some sort of Neo-Conservative half-Nazi crazypants. Her kids names are Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig. What the hell kind of names are those? I won't be voting in this election. I'll wait till next time. I might have voted for JM with his old policy but with his new policy I've just gotta say no. On a final note I thought that Bill Richardson (Gov. NM) had some very interesting ideas about energy.

By the way. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings/offended anyone. That's just my take on things.

well time for non-american 2 agorets (israel's equivalent of cent)...
I am a palestinian living in jerusalem, and as a country that is influnced by the american politics, my people take interest with the american elections, and the american presidents, not that we care much about the inner policies of american, it's america's business.

as for us, we care more about the external politics of the USA since it WILL affect the current situation of many countries around us, iraq, iran, and us, but personally i am not much into politics, and my best opinion about politics and politicians would be, Politic = lies and brain washing. Politician = lying crooked people with words that get into ur head and screws with it, they never tell a truth, if u ask them "are u still a virgin?! if you are i'll vote for you, they;ll say yes... with his 3 children & wife standing next to u, they dont care about u, they care about themselves and the party the come from, they are worthless beings (most of the time) and if you ask me, anyone that asks for power, it should not be given to it, because if he wants it then he has personal gain in it.

anyways to get back to the matter, my personal view of the current matter (and many share it with me)

Obama = democrate not a war kinda guy, promises to withrdaw from iraq and work on the peace in the middle east, my people like him

Mckain = a fossilised republican soldier that in the eyes of my people represents the devil, his election would lead to the prolonging of american presence in iraq, my people hate him

and Gheari watches jay leno too much, lol, that's his favorite joke about Mckain.
