I say the environment as a "all-in-one" thing to not get really annoying saying ah "the family is .... then, the TV may change... also some of those porns we read..." so, all-in-one is easier well, the blood, I think it has some influence but not that much. It's just that it is around 10-20% is about ourselves(like our capacity, our knoledge about our limits, physical and psychological...) the other 80-90% is the environment. Of course I'm not an expert about this, and this is about my experience and environment, it may change with people, culture, place and everything else D:<

Oh well, I'm lost now, I don't sleep for three days now... but a good hint is: if you can't answer... 42 and finally my worms armageddon patch is downloaded.... I think I'm going to play now.... @_@

Ehhh... haven't been on in a while but I'll try and make something up to combat your theory...Hmmm, lets see, well off of the psychology stuff for a while because I'm tired of it... and I believe senoiritis is kicking in too, but there is no way that environment can become an "all-in-one" category there are far to many items for it to be "all-in-one" and now this topic is staring to go off topic with the psychology spin-off-esc thingy-ma-bob... I'm TIRED!

oh you got the idea, dammit! it's not JUST IT, it's a way to say everything without having to say everything D:<

anyway, if you kill someone and listen a "TARARA TARAA" sfx your life IS a RPG ! lol or maybe if you have to attack him once, and wait until a magic bar fills up... or maybe your partner falls down and you have to use a LAPIS to revive him... maybe a RESSURECTION skill......

Funny that you write this thread, Gundam! I've been thinking a lot lately (philosophically of course ), and "real life," as we live it, could be considered role-play, even though not in the traditional computer-game sense of the word.

Think about this, we all live one life on Earth right now, we don't have control over multiple lives (or multiple characters to put it into RPG sense). We only have ourselves the way we are right now.

It's up to us to improve ourselves, our skills, our moral development, our relationships with others. Now come to think of it, real life bears a strong resemblence to "role-play." We are basically living in a real life "RPG."

We have complete control over our actions. For every choice, there is a consequence, we must all remember that. Consequences are mostly dangerous to us or harmful to others in some way.

Perhaps modern RPGs have just become much closer to real life.

That very well could be the case. But if one thinks deeply enough about this, they could see a close resemblence between the concept of roleplay, and our real lives. We essentially roleplay who we are in real life. Sorry if my previous post was too confusing.

Like Gheari in a way kinda said, Life came first then came the role-playing.

Or are you referrring to the fact that we all, beings from amoebae to fox to whatever above, take an role to play?

Fox takes the role he is "given" feeds on rodents, insects, worms, fruit, fish, etc.. runs around in forests (of course not aimlessly), lives an fox's life, what is expected from it, not by us humans but by his/hers kins, plays the foxes role in this mmorpg Earth online?

But are you perhaps just confusing the two?

Since the fox would do so even without the motherly paw of wisdom, father's roughness or brothers caring.
If he would have been born alone in an forest with none of his kind anywhere near or far to find, he would still be very fox like afterall his body and mind however small it is, has evolved to that type of survival, not role.

Same can be applied to humans and our means of survival, from day one to zero.

Spoiler:
role

noun
1. the actions and activities assigned to or required or expected of a person or group; "the function of a teacher"; "the government must do its part"; "play its role"
2. an actor's portrayal of someone in a play; "she played the part of Desdemona"
3. what something is used for; "the function of an auger is to bore holes"; "ballet is beautiful but what use is it?"
4. normal or customary activity of a person in a particular social setting; "what is your role on the team?"

And i just woke up so my head isn't functioning properly, i hope i didnt misunderstand what you were trying to clarify.

No, you are right Letum. People are confusing the difference between life and role and what roleplay really is. Life is simply living as yourself, day to day, and doing what you do. Roleplaying on the other hand is acting like you are someone other than yourself, taking the persona of another in a giant play or story that is an mmorpg. It just happens that you get to design that character to a certain degree instead of having the writer choose it all for you.

The reason why one's life may seem like an rpg is because when you are rp-ing you are literally acting out someone else's life. Whether that happens to be be real or imaginary, scripted or improvised.

If this is the case, then one must ask what makes it so fun? I mean, living your own life can be boring, annoying, painful... why live someone else's too. However, what is fun is being able to leave your own life behind, to pretend to be someone else, to wear that mask that is your avatar and act as you think that character you have designed would act, whether it's raping and pillaging or defending the weak or not getting involved and robbing everyone blind, etc.

What is evolving in mmo's and why I love the idea of games like Tatsumaki is the fact that some of these games are getting more and more freeform. It lets me play my character, how I want from square #1, but more importantly it allows me, even forces me, to develop a good, full character that I can roleplay that much better with other roleplayers.
