Or where, for that matter.

Not to mention that the Miyamoto were small retainers. Worth just a few hundred koku, at best. Enough for a clan (or shall we say: family, since all the samurai families were, ultimately, clans), but not enough for a damiyo.

The whole thing with the Fujiwara, well, everyone tried that. Even the Old Badger Ieyasu tried to trace himself back to the Fujiwara and the Minamoto so boost his claim for ruling the country.

Hideyoshi never had that problem. He must have been rather happy about that, even though it blocked him from calling himself "shogun".

I think what Hideyoshi had a problem with, and what he didn't have a problem with, is rather irrelevant, as the man was insane.

He certainly went bonkers after a while. No surprise. Not with that amount of power.

However, his way there is quite impressive, insane or not.

Yep. So warped, only a mad man would dream of it actually working.

Oh wait... well. There ya go!

Despite the fact that the 16th century didn't see such legendary heroes as Uesugi Kenshin, Takeda Shingen, Oda Nobunaga and Hashiba Hideyoshi to name a few, there were still a number of greats who lived on into the era.
I'm not sure if anyone's already mentioned this, but the 1600s saw all of those heroes. They were all famous in the 1500s.

Here is an image showing many of the clans official battle colours and their standard standards
