View Full Version : Open-source Tatsumaki MUD?

With the barrage of complaints we've received relating to Flashchat, and the lack-luster quality some see in IRC, one of our forum members recently suggested that we create a MUD.
While the majority of the main team is far too busy to help, we will provide the basic framework in which to build this MUD; namely, the server.
If anyone here is interested, we will begin a new project in which everyone on eoeforums.com is participate in.
Rather than creating a Sourceforge project, thus requiring everyone to learn complex source management software - we will post the code, in plain text, in a new area on the forums. Anyone willing and capable, can create new files, suggest edits, etc. to the already existing code - as well as suggest ideas.
A basic overview of the forums to be created follows:
Tatsumaki MUD (Category)
-Ideas
-Code
-Feedback
The code area will be as follows:
Each file will have its own dedicated thread, in which every user can suggest changes (With code in [ code] tags). Everyone will be allowed to create new files, as long as they properly include them into the pseudo-project.
The full source will be included at the top of this thread as a sticky, in a Dev-C++ project (Dev-C++ is a free IDE).
Once we have received 20 votes, we will begin creating this project.

Glad everyone is liking it so far.
And to those wondering.
MUD = Multi-User Dungeon, its a text based MMORPG (Basically).
Everyone on eoeforums.com is welcome to take part in this development, even the non-coders (Ideas, dungeon/world layouts, item creation, etc.)

Well, If we are making a MuD version of Tatsumaki as an MMORPG, I can help build the dungeons, and items, and so forth, in the past I have been a builder on over 10 different muds, as well as owning my own mud. Although, I do not think that we should divert our attention from what really needs our work and attention; Tatsumaki itself.

This is a community project, not an EoE project.

I have a reasonable amount of experience in writing for LPMuds - I originally learned how to code on one, and I do have some experience in writing ground-level systems (such as combat systems or NPC management). It's been a few years since I did any work in the area, but it probably wouldn't take me long to get back into it, since I still code in both C and C++.

foreal man... who voted no? you're obviously getting owned. admin can check results ^^
I'm already spread thin with Sever Complex and multiple writing tasks for Tatsumaki, but I'm a masochist. I'm up for any written portions of the MUD (such as explanation, atmosphere, etc).

I think someoen who voted no may have been afraid that the dev team would be distracted. I am all for this idea and think its bad ass if its a forum project not eoe produced cause I do want tatsumaki. I dont think whoever voted no did it to be an ass lol.

Grab ye pitchfork and torch's, there be an Ogre!
(I dont think thats the exact line from Shrek but its close enough.)
Its kinda amusing how this is going to turn into a witch hunt... *goes off looting and pillaging*.

I VOTED NO!!! Not really, but i finally got access to vote, and you can bet it was a yes. I think the person who voted no, saw the word MUD and was like :Eyecrazy: Then after voting he was probably like :scared1: and ran off to hide. But seriously, MUDs can be annoying and sometime.. not fun, but you have to keep in mind this is accually being done because FC is hell to use. We are tring to make a fun alturnitive to FC. Anyway the voting is over and the MUD is going into production so, maybe sykoi or a Mod can close this topic.

It doesnt matter if you vote yes or no, like i said, the voting is over and the production of the MUD has started. A MUD is a text based rpg. Its like real time RPing
