Example, by Greven:
Closed economy (there’s a constant amount of money in circulation, and that amount always remains the same)
Lots of NPC quests relative to your characters experiences, abilities and skills.
Frequently and often admin/Moderator/GM held quests.
A broad world with a big variety (within the Japanese boundaries) of climate, vegetation and civilization.
Player-owned houses, castles (?), boats (fishing ships etc), horses, oxes etc etc etc.
Player-controlled economies, politics and relations.
Broad skill tree with everything from fishing and shoe-crafting to warfare and stealth.
Complete body customization (height, weight, fitness, feet, body hair etc).
Complete face customization (something similar to EVE perhaps?)
Breeding. The families actually expand by the birth of new family members. Could be combined with the mechanics of death. (if death will be part of Tatsumaki at all.)
Lots and lots of NPCs in order to create a rich and “alive” environment.
A big selection of clothes and their colours, qualities and pricing. (keep it authentic though)
Player-usable ships (for fishing/transportation) and horses/oxes (for farming/transportation).
Dynamic world in the sense that all objects, houses etc can be destroyed, changed, manipulated etc. For example;
If a curtain (or similar) accidentally gets caught on fire by a candle, it could very well lead to the whole house burning down, unless the fire is turned out.
If a wagon accidentally comes rushing down the hill and crashes into a house, the house will be damaged in those areas which the wagon hit.
Etc.
Deep woods, high mountains and natural environments which encourage exploration and adventure.
Broad range of wildlife in forests and other natural environments. (For example, not just one kind of “fish” but several).
Player-crafting and player controlled market. What you make you sell and so on.
Very big variety among craft able items and their quality in order to insure that not all players end up making and using the same items (“Lineage-syndrome”).
Professions. This almost cuts into the class-system, but with the difference that you can always change your profession. The profession would be more as a normal job, like being a fisher, a warrior or a tradesman.
Warlords and shoguns. I could see that to some extent players can take the roles of these incredibly powerful positions, yet from a bigger perspective such positions should be administrated from an admin/moderator/GM level in order to host big events, quests and similar.
No universal chat, please!
All conversations take place locally. If you’re too far away, you just can’t hear what someone is saying.
The choice of having your character speak at different sound levels. A.k.a whispering, shouting etc.
Games. Traditional Japanese games which can be used to kill time.
Realistic inventories. For example; if you’re not wearing a backpack or carrying a sack, you can always just carry what fits into your two hands/arms. A backpack has a realistic limit as well. Items could always be stored in a house or similar aside of this.
Emphasises on moral conduct. Even though a samurai could do evil deeds, he doesn’t slay the first person he sees.
95 out of 100 players running around with weapons? No thank you! Just as we’re not used to everyone running around with a shotgun today, nor was the ordinary Japanese man/woman used to run around with a sword or a spear.
Encourage players to activate themselves with something other than warfare, espionage or thieving. We don’t want a clichéd Tatsumaki where everyone playsor wants to play the role of a warrior or ninja.
Please try to make farming, trading, hunting or shoe-crafting just as much fun as fighting or going to war.
Zyke

Going along with this, scabbards and such to put weapons in
Putting arrows in quivers, not holding them in your hand or backpack. Also, realistic amounts. Quivers can't hold 100 arrows at a time
Holding a weapon should make you run slower, lose stamina more quickly, and in some places should trigger guards and such to attack you. (Reasons to keep it unequipped unless you are going to use it)
With the above, skills that allow you to unsheath (sp) weapons more quickly and shoot arrows more quickly

Some ideas from me:
Family warfare system
System where the head of each family goes to the local Shogun/Diamyo/Emperor and declares a state of conflict against opposing family. Members of each family must wear a special tag (either next to their name, or on their clothing) that only the members of the other family may see. When a member of one family attacks a member from an opposing family, neither side will loose karma. The winner gains karma (in anciant Japan defeating an enemy was considered great victory, and great honor was brought upon the winning side/faction/family) The japanese gods would then acknowledge this and award -Good- Karma to the winner. No-one would go to jail, only the local healer.
Upon Tomi's views on a clan:
A clan should be seperate from a family. Clans can be joined by members of many families, and hold a treaty among all the families whose members take part in the clan. Clans can declare war on other clans/families. The rest is in Tomi's post.

Clan Ideas
The game should have a system of buttons or controls, and menu interfaces, that are for Clan controls, Ex:
Join Clan
Create Clan
Edit Clan
Set Clan Status(War, Peace, Nuetral, Ally)
Player has to complete certain tasks to create clan, and maintain it.
Clan Leader can name his clan ranks, and his Clan
Clan can get a mini-site hosted by EOE, maybe be put on forums.
Travelling
Millions of secret areas; dungeons, forests, underground caves, sky-high mountains, swamps, etc.
Travelling by horse, caravans, hitchhiking, etc.

I'd like to see art as a real aspect of the world, give people something to do other then kill each other. I'd like it if it were possible that someone might create something interesting and it would spread, maybe get a little fame as so-and-so's masterpiece, maybe spark a few copycats as people try to duplicate the origional genius.
Politics based on politics. It would be cool if the way positions were given wasn't skill at fighting or roleplaying, but instead through political manuvering. I know it's kinda a lot to expect an economy, but if there were you might make predictions about it and your standing would rise or fall based on them as you get a reputation. Or you could build up a powerbase or things like that if making guesses isn't your forte.

I like Me2's Idea.
more than a hack and slash game. Maybe a role on Economics and Political. Saying the game is a shogunate base why dont we have that play a big part of the game. Rather than just having 100million families pop up have the shogunate try and... "control" the populious, by having assassins NPCs or other families war each other. While also having a toggle to not have PVP on.
Also like to see a crafting system while is complex in maybe reasources but the actual crafting system is emjoyable to do. 8)
Being a man of huge arrays of clothing in all my other MMORPG i would like lots of different types and styles of clothing armour.
I also like Zyke's idea about scabbards and quivers. Ive always hated swords in hands when they are not in use and bows out. Would love to see someone with swords away and bow on their back.
Thanks for allowing me to rant 8)
PS
Emotes, lots of emotes nothing funnier than being a 15th centuary samuari and flipping someone off.
Character creation, more posibilies the better. No fun looking like everyone else.

Bounty System, being able to place Bounties on peoples heads or have one on yours.
Reputation, works with Bounty, once it gets to low with a group (if npc) they place a bounty on your head. Makes their enimies look more favorably on you.
Ability for NPC's to remember you. If another Pc talks to an NPC about you (maybe they have taken a bount on you mission, they will need to use their reputation and skills on the NPC, against your reputation with that NPC. If he likes you more, the NPC knows nothing.

FAMILY IDEAS
Family Treasury - Family members can donate and contribute funds to the main family funds
Family Resource Treasury - Same idea with Funds, but this is with resource(wood, metal, chemicals, weapons, armors)
OTHERS
Player Nicknames/Tags - Players have nickname or tag that can be shown above their heads when moused-on. Allows for unofficial ranking, titles, Family others.
Ingame Boards - ingame boards in different villages or locations giving info, writing about stuff, giving hints about the place, map of area.
Player Emotes - Have characters being abled to emote - dance, sit, etc.

make players focus on one type of combat school (if they choose combat professions, in RL they take a lifetime to learn, and even longer to master)
small inventory ( have you ever seen a man carry 200 lbs of stuff everywhere he goes?)
good clothing animation (hakama blows in the wind, moves when the wearer moves)
you must wear everything in your inventory ( it will be on a rope and hanging from your back or somthing)
realistic inventory ( i know i cant carry 3 suits of armor, 2 longbows, 3 swords, an array of potions,1,000 arrows and a couple dozen yari {japaneese spear})
Zanshin (has no translation, but we will call it awareness. when someone locks on to me in RL i feel it through somthing called zanshin, in the game if someone selects your avatar and tries to attack, a message should pop up saying somthing like "you feel the touch murder behind you" it is well documented that many samurai survived the fight because of this Zanshin, it actually changed one man's life and he founded a sword school in ancient japan because of it!)
sorry, i'm not supposed to say what person i'm referring to, if you look it up, message me with your guess.

Armoured Face Masks. So that all helmets are opened face and then you put a face mask with it. Also would allow others to wear just face masks 8)
Various NPC sects littered around displaying different "powers" which could be derived from alchemy and wearing odd clothing to make themselves cool 8) Gives us something more to kill maybe challenging
The flags on the back of the samurai armour! hehehe
Different types of barding for horses.

Infinite training methods - just swinging your sword increases temp. strength/enough swinging and you raise your permanent strength rating.
Training Isnt Easy - Training requires stamina, good health condition
Dangerous Training - Training can get hazardous(ex. Sitting under waterfall too long will give you a cold, too much push-ups will give you cramps and muscle injuries, if under too much pressure you will faint[while unconscious, people can steal from you]0
Training Props - Better training requires gyms and props(ex. fighting a tree teaches you something, but fighting a dummy in a gym with a tutor teaches you better techniques -=unless you can learn them by yourself=-)

I would like ot be able to see someone with some really cool clothes or a really neat sword, kill them, and be able to actually get the stuff off of them. Not Players, but NPCs. I've played a lot of games and most of the time what you get from a corpse is nothing like what they actually have.
I want to be able to find that perfect outfit being worn by a really mean NPC and then be able to gut him and take the outfit. In slightly damaged and bloodstained condition of course.
I would also like to be able to style my hair as I feel like it. Not sure how hairstyles are gonna work, but I wouldn't mind being able to style for the occasion.
I would also like ot see visible damage on my character after a battle. Limping or bleeding or something. Not sure if it's possible, but those are my three wishes anyway.

Wow! Lots of excellent ideas. I'd like to second a few of them and add a few of my own vain hopes and desires:
No universal chat.
Mutable terrain (Dig ditches and pile dirt elsewhere.)
Poison for food/water and weapons.
Traps!
ROPE! Both for climbing and for binding!
Basic tools for complex and varied concepts:
Rather than implement a personal or family treasury into the UI, allow the creation of safes and strongboxes which can store the funds. The upkeep of said funds is then the responsibility of the player and not looked after by the game itself. Basically, I'd much rather see the building blocks for ideas available in game rather than some sort of system already in place to which one must adhere.
Maybe prisoners. Though it would be difficult to implement without giving rise to reckless and overabundant kidnapping. (A topic for discussion.)
If prisoners are allowed to be taken, I would also like to see the option to honorably take your own life.
Probably about a million other things, but work is over now so I'll leave you with what's here. :)

When you kill an npc or mob or even a player it would be nice if they didnt float into the air and disapear within 2 seconds even though it might lag it would be awsome to watch the corpse slowly decompose.
leaves fall and can be steped on.
Rain, hits armor and you can hear it.
Can get on the parapits and walls of castles to defend or look out.
fist fight
taverns that sell alchohol not only a place to meet and chat but get drunk too (make the game more real)
sit in chairs, benches beds.
wenches who make good grub.
not to many customizations of armor and weapons because a more uniform game looks very nice.
clans after proving there worthiness should get there own castle, house and customize there undershirt armor or cape,to a certain color so you know who they are.
no dragon flying super chainsaw thrash moves kinda junk, all real.
alot of npcs that go about there own bussiness tilling the land fighting eachother yelling out there wares at the store, caravan parties to rob or patrol, in all I want to see good AI.
and different sets of clothes that are easy to afford due to no armor bonuses so i can dress nice for a night out on the town, or when im tilling the land.
and i want to travel for a few hours with a squad come across a town with players and npcs in it and crush them all and kill there livestock burn there village to the ground and steal there items. lol
Thats it for now more to come soon.

My little *cough* wishlist:
Gameplay before realism (untill a curtain point offcourse)
Huge epic fights over domination of a provence (example: Lineage 2's Castle Siege, only customised to Tatsumaki)
Realistic fishing and hunting system.
Fishing: Not the basic click on rod, throw out line, catch fish. I'm talking about depth here. Using different types of bait. Nowing where fish are on what time of day, and with what weather
Hunting: Tracking your prey. Using the wind to your advantage. Setting traps. Using small prey animals to distract larger animals.
Lots of character customisation. Again gameplay before realism. So if it tampers with the game then leave it.
Lots of hous customisation option. I would not like to have a house identical to 5000 other people.
Weather having huge effects on the community. (in either fights, normal circumstances, etc.)
Terrain effects your preformance. Walking up a hill or stairway will fatique you faster than walking a plain, flat road. Also climbing and jumping should fatique you more.
Weapon/clothing customisations. Having symbols, markings, drawings on your weapon to let it stand apart from everything from the same type. (Big cheer if you can implent this)
PK control. From what I've seen in Lineage 2 is that if you give players freedom they will gladly take it and will use it to annoy others. Not everyone will respect the roleplaying aspect of the game as others will. I suggest something like having instant fines. If not in money (because the players doesn't have any, then pay in items or other possesion) I don't think people would like to lose a house they build. Also if you get attacked by a player with bad karma (because of PK) you won't get penalties when you die. Maybe a bounty hunter system for those really annoying guys;)

I finally finished reading wiki (loads of things make me think about stayin here lol)
i loved the idea of a theater, why not implementing some artistical skills ?
painting drawing : people would be able to draw (maybe themselves i dont know in which way we would create those pictures by ourselves in the game) things they could sell, or put in their house, lmagine a proud soldier who tells an artist how he suceeded to kill with one finger 3000 people who were overpowered well :)
music : this would be i think easier to implement, register instrument from this period and allow ppl to make their own "song" (sorry my english lack of musical vocabulary) and why not play them in the street and stuff...
this would also add some items that artisan could create, of course the more you play the more you'll be able to create new songs
sculpting : this is directly inspired by " a tale in the desert" that allow people to have access to a large choice of "item" and they can freely put them together to make sculptures.
again the exemple i wanted to give would be about soldier, who have been promoted and want to show his strengh within a sculpture of him still killing people with his holy finger,
--> people would have possibility to have dress / item / character model and choose loads of position, and materials too, some newbie sculptor would only be able to make things with wet sand, or earth, and a famous one, could use jade or whatever precious :)
i've seen many good idea ^^ so i wont repeat things about gameplay and realistic environment :)

Most games i've played have content for RPer's that doesn't directly affect game play in any way. Most refer to this stuff as Fluff.
I'd like to see T:Law with a lot of fluff. Coming out the wazoo even. I know this stuff probably won't be in large quantity at release, but i'd like to see it added to the game eventually.
The ability to change your hair style in game. For example you could tie back your hair, untie it, ruffle it, braid it, unbraid it, and i'd like to see all that, and then some in T:Law. Guys also got beards after a few days if they did not shave, and they would have to trim their hair as well. I would like to see that too. The average ranger might keep a scruffy stubble thing going, but when they go into a big city, they may want to shave it clean.
Clothes that can be worn both over and under armor. They don't have to give anything for armor factor or anything, but multiple layers would be awesome!
Visible jewelry. Every graphical MMOG i've played never shows your earrings, necklaces, rings, or bracelets! I'd like to start seeing these.
Differant colours and styles of animals. Sure, a horse is a horse, of course, but not all have to be grey. Give us a wide variety of horses, with differant breeds. Clydsdales would have more towing capacity. A thoroughbred would be faster etc.
Id also like graphical emotes, such as bowing, waving and the such.
Well im sure ill think of some more later :) and if its already been said or in the wiki im sorry and ill check it first next time :-p
Edit: Oops i didn't use bullet points, sorry!
Edit: Fixed it for you ;) -Sykoi

Self-changing environment - Forests grow on their own, coastlines erode, freshwater sources rise and fall due to amount of rain, and the like.
Second on "mutable terrian" - reclaimable low water areas to gain workable land (Hi Shin!), plantable trees for defense and landscaping, movable earth to create lakes/canals, etc.

Here goes,
Commerce and trade with different clans/provinces. If one province is rich in fertile land they could trade rice/wheat for metal from another province.
The ability for one Clan to attack another, and to own land/build upon land and set up shop on that land.
At the very least a crude interstate system connecting the different provinces, possibly the chance to expand the road and build new ones.
Combat system that is based less on armor/weapon stats and more on actually skill and strategy.
One of my final wishes is that the dev team doesn't get too bogged down in little do dads and bells and whistles, and keep up the good work.

More wishlist stuff.
For there to be designable and sculptable landscape, escpecially within Zen area: IE Zen Gardens, Buddhist water garden type thing, I'd settle just for that.
An actual meditate feature. You sit and medidate... and have to either hit a button or regulate breathing in order to keep focus. Maybe have a random skill be available after like 1000 games hours of meditation. The longer your medidate the better you become at a given task. IE - You train for 30 minutes in the dojo for a certain style or combination move with your sword. After that have an option to meditate before/after training to boost its performance.
Sharpening your senses through meditation, IE <someone else posted elsewhere about this but was good idea> sense danger, maybe sense reputation, etc, could be a lot of good ones there. Since there is no actual magick, this would be close.
Since there is no actual magick to speak of, maybe having a group of mystics, soothesayers, maybe even like Shinto shaman that can bless troops, battlegear. As long as you kept the benefit reasonable it would be good gameplay I think.
Live dieties. Have a "pray" command/feature in which maybe a GM would get involved and help them out, either wisking them out of danger or maybe granting health, etc. This could be related to the meditate command, the more someone meditates the more likely thier prayers will be heard type thing.
Make the rewards for literature/art/lore as substantial as those for combat. Though these things might presupose an instrinsic reward, I think rewarding them with extrensic items might be fun too.

Some more from me
Moving walls inside the houses, to keep with the traditional Japanese style house. Walls are moved with the action key.
Wars may take up to several RL weeks. A war is not won by the total destruction of a province/people but are won politically by treaties or assasinations. Wars may end in a ceasefire if the attacker decides not to complete the raid.

Horses again...
A newspaper/news sytem to tell you of bountys and assasanations and such
Have pets or animals for transportation
your house and items can get damaged by weather
you get sick
people around you get your sickness if it is contagous
snow makes you slip and makes the small lakes icey
summer makes farms dwingle
tools wear and need to be sharpenned and such.
tools,armors,weapons break with use
A good way to farm...like you buy the seeds and water them
markets in every town
NPC's say something different every time
again about weather wear
items left in the rain get rust deposits (if metal)

I think it would be cool to be able to make and take drugs in Tatsumaki. Like growing them or making them by mixing herbs or mushrooms. And if you take the drugs then it will have an effect on the character like: hallucinations, the screen turning different colors, or things around you being slowed down or anything else that could happen when you take them. It also might be interesting if a person can overdose or get addicted to it. Like if they overdose they pass out or if it's a big enough overdose they could die. When they get addicted to it maybe they won't be able to run as fast without having it or the screen starts shaking or other physical effects. Withdrawl symptoms would be interesting too.

This is more a general thing, not something specific to the theme, and I really doubt it would be put in... but:
A variety of character animations/character voices. It always ruins the customisation for me when my character has a generic voice or runs like some kind of ultimate hero when it doesn't fit his character at all. Just a few different styles would be nice, I'm not sure how hard that would be to impliment.
Facial Emotes - happy, sad, depressed, cool-looking, surprised, scared, shocked, angry, emotionless, ambarrassed, Big smiles, sleepy, evil, and MANY MORE!!

Want many combat tactics, including parry/riposte/evasion.
Want the lighter armours to be effective in that they allow the user to attack faster and with a little more power, and make defensive skills, especially evade, a little easier to perform.
Want to be able to create a little basic shelter in the woods :)
A hall of fame available in game, which recognises achievements such as largest fish caught, number of PKs (not realistic i know, but PLEASE remember this is still just a game, and things like the pop-up hall of fame i found really increase my enjoyment, and give me something to work toward) and so on.
MUSIC IS IMPORTANT.
REALLY, MUSIC IS IMPORTANT.
CRAP MUSIC = CRAP GAME.
I imagine this game a little as an MMO version of way of the samurai for the playstation 2. Therefore, we should steal the evening time music because its nice, I mean it's really nice evening music and goes well with sunsets.
Another note on housing (or rather, family/faction housing) I think that BIG families with large houses (ie. the Akadama clan in WotS) should have special areas with a single house and a big path leading up to them. They should be noticeable, memorable. They should also be reserved for a few familise only. In other words, all the people who have made families here on the forums before even the beta.
Community spirit! As you mentioned, some people may be able to afford a town/province. I believe there should be lots of focus on what you can do within a town, so that even warriors who go out to war can look forward to meeting all their friends (mainly the crafters/cooks/alchemists etc who stay at home) back in their town, look forward to walking through a busy street in their individual town, with one or two police walking about, and lots of friendly people talking about current affairs. I think it's really important that this be made a factor in the game, because while it's cool to own a town or province, it doesn't mean much if people just use it as a safe place to log their character out. It should be a place where people make friends and strong bonds between people, so that townspeople eventually all know each other. Having stalls and things to do would always help this.

Proximity voice chat(Might up kbps needed but it would be really cool with voice chat that affects everyone within 30ft or so (Option to turn off in a battle or somthing))
Durrability on armour and weapons(Armour slowly gets weaker with the quality of the armour affecting speed of decay(same for weapons except with how sharp they are))

weapon rusting and parts loosening (you're supposed to completely disassemble and reassemble your katana something like once every 3 weeks when its just sitting on a stand)(technically durability, but you don't have to use a weapon for it to rust)
show-rooms for weapons, armor, paintings, etc etc
advertising for local business in the teahouses (and teahouses in the other businesses)
(unless historically innacurate) access to trade goods via shipping lanes to other countries...
for example, getting ivory from the mainland (i don't know if there were elephants in japan or not... im thinking not) to make weapons, armors, pottery, etc etc.
complete 100% weapons customization in terms of aesthetics and measurements.
being able to make a katana of a lesser length than a regular katana, but above a wakizashi so it is still labeled as a katana... the aspects of this production could be a lower weight, lesser attack reach and damage, etc etc... in terms of aesthetics, being able to paint or dye the wood scabbards, different color lacquers when/if used. various color and styles of tsuba, being able to dye the ray-skin. having a special stamp to commemorate the blacksmith or having symbols wrapped under the ray-skin, etc etc
ability to kick chickens (see Fable)
Great amounts of house customization
if you wanted to have all stone or wood walls, or the paper/wood-frame doors/walls (i don't know their name)... blinds and curtains, plus colors and various symbols displayed (symbols that recognize the building as a shop or that it belongs to a certain family)

eating regularly is a necessity - penalties on stamina, stength, and such for not eating
apprenticeship and mastery of ryus - a famous master would only choose an exceptionally promising student to teach his exclusive ryu, and the player can later teach or invent new ryus and open a dojo
vast number of different types of weapon, but not garish, impractical weapon designs to differentiate between two particular models of the same type
weapon familiarity - the more you use one particular weapon, your character learns its nuances, and can wield it more effectively
damage dealt is based more on familiarity, skill, and ryu than what kind of weapon it is
vast warfare and tactics - armies numbering in the thousands, flanking maneuvers, waylaying supply lines, blockades, et cetera
players police each other in a Yokuza-type way

Free PVP
like done in Shadowbane (if players stand to loose what they build they will not be smacktards except for some exceptionally dedicated and hard-core RPK's but their will be many MANY more anti pks also factional based pvp could be ok
windows of oportunity to knock down other players cities in a war
so we dont get the 5:00 A.M raiders that will decimate our hard built cities since none of your people are awake and npc guards no mater how good the AI are still not that bright
A Reward dispencing NPC
this is a nitpick but I kinda hope their are alternatives to gaining good rewards other then looting a players corpse though in pvp the experience is exilerating to take their stuff for historic authenticity they would have to been very carefull not to touch dead flesh I'am sorta either way on this
A Dueling ring in a Dojo (player and npc owned)
where you can practice your Brutally Harsh combos on living combatants repeatedly untill one of you becomes better and when one would expire they both bow and are fully healed so they can try again on each other as a training exercise clan training is crucial in fighting games
Take the animal fat dishes out of the game
alot of japanese wouldnt eat it as animal fat made them smell bad and it was touching dead flesh on a similar note leather may have been used in some cheap armor (not sure if I have my facts right) but I'm pretty sure it wasnt used in japanese clothing
Some accuracy in the crafting description of making curved blades
a katana will curve by its self because of how it is heat treated it doesnt need help bending but if you wanna straight katana (not a ninjato) you would have to take precautions to make sure it doesnt bend they look real nice too :)
all the Warrior Martial Arts that end in a -jutsu to please be included like Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu (two sword martial arts)
Martial Arts ending in a -jutsu signified they were more military oriented and those in a -do style signfied that they would be a way of life I mean Kenjitsu doesnt look as flashy as Kendo but Kenjitsu wont get you killed on the battlefield either as many Kendo moves will
Support for 5 button mouses all you Ninjutsu Masters will want one
they make doing combos so much easier for instance if your primary attack, secondary attack, block, and duck keys are all on your mouse
Easier weapons to use should have simpler combos to pull off
for instance the spear was a very easy to use weapon when compared to the sword so it should have simpler combo's to use
EDITED to follow the rules and prevent myself from droning on oh and to add ideas insteading making a new post I will just edit this one :)

I have browsed this thread, hopefully I am not reposting any ideas. More to come.
·When creating characters, players should be able to change weight, height, and hairstyle, face shape (eyes, eyebrows mouth, nose), and so on. (Reference: City Of Heroes)
·Food should play a factor on the characters weight.
·Clans should have strict requirements, such as needing a certain amount of members, completing missions and quests set by the Shogun, and clans should have to also compete for the land they live off of.
·Clans and Families should be tough to create, so we don’t have a million one-person families running around.
·Clans and Families should be the only ones able to create castles, towns and villages.
·In order for a clan or a family to create a castle they must also meet strict requirements such as a certain amount of members, fame, having the money to maintain the estate.
·If a Clan loses members; that clan may lose its castle, town, and other things that is was awarded with.
·Clans should each have their own standard, as well as sub-families within that clan.
·In order to create a Clan, multiple large families must combine and work together as one. (Reference: Legend of the Five Rings card game)

Reputation:
A Player or an NPC should be able to obtain a reputation. The reputation should be completely customizable and realistic. This leaves the reputation very open ended. For example a player may become a Shogun and have the reputation of a Bloodthirsty Tyrant. As a player progresses they could earn points towards a Legendary or Infamous status. Also they could become instantly recognizable. For instance everyone will know who you are because when you enter an area the npc's would start to spread rumors about you.
No Limits:
If a player wants to become emperor give them the opportunity. Make it next to impossible to achieve but leave it as a possible profession. Emperor is just an example however, Perhaps I want to become the next Rouroni Kenshin. It should be possible. Or maybe politics and saving the nation with a reverse blade sword isn't what I had in mind. Maybe I just want to be a fisherman, well I should have the opportunity to become the best fisherman in all Japan.
Health Management:
Some players will have no interest in having to maintain their eating habits manually. Their should be an auto option for these daily tasks. Of course it doesn't have to be a healthy diet either. Maybe the auto system will make judgements based on their personality and have a few days of poor eating habits mixed in because well if you are a human cannibal their are bound to be some repercussions even in an automated system. :)
Combat: PLENTY of moves combinations of moves and animations for moves. Most games run out of new eye candy for this area far to early. OR they pace the learning of something new so slowly that you get bored quick. Abundance is key in this area. Also instant kill moves would be nice :) I mean who survives a Katana to the throat?
Business: Maybe I want to become a Fan manufacturer. Or maybe I want to raise the best livestock and sell it for a huge profit!!! Of course I probably won't be interested in pursuing the livestock trade myself I probably wouldn't mind forming a business that gives my character a decent income. I'd probbaly lean towards free lance assassination but hey It's virtual reality in feudal Japan so I don't feel guilty!!!
Anyways that's a few ideas I had...

CAMEO APPEARANCE
It would be a nice and very unique idea to have cameo appearances of famous people and maybe even fictional ones. like for example, Lord Nobunaga(although he's wasnt alive yet, oh well), or Miyamoto Musashi. Or maybe just some fictional characters like Himura Kenshin(if nobody already took his name for a character), or like, Mugen! hehehe, its just a thought.

Subdual/Fatigue damage -
I would really appreciate seeing a fatigue or subdual damage system in place, that would allow for things such as defensive martial arts or sparring without fear of death. Considering that fatigue is a very real part of life, and was a catalyst in some battles and such, I just thought it might be a good idea. I do recognize that a nutrition system is already in place - I felt it was a seperate entity, though.

No Names/Tags Unless You have met the person
Personally I think it would be great if you could not see a name, tag, or anything else identifying a person other than their clothes unless some interaction takes place and you allow it. If I walk up to you, you don't know my name unless I give it you. I don't have any idea what the overhead would be like but if it could keep track if you have met a person or not before and only allow you to see their name/tag if you have met them before that would encourage RP and just improve overall gameplay IMO.

And this is my 100th post :)
Oh and most of the suggestions about cities comes from the game shadowbane and their successes and failures.
I want to have a combo journal.
where I can save the stuff I learned like a ingame diary, you know just to keep the instructions of how to do stuff and I dont wanna have to write it down I want it to prompt me to save the info especially for Martial Arts.
And I want Stealth in one fashion or another.
if their isnt a poof your invisible system I want it to be good enough that keeping the monitor settings up so high as to see everything is unconfortable enough to deter the enemy.
I want the extra ingame content for the expensive preorders to be practical like a choice of all the Martial Arts or various money making skills
like crafting up to and including Ninjutsu, maybe have them place it in your ingame combo journals.
And this is a bit ambiguitous, but I want something to war over like territory that you can build cities and war structures
I want their to be a actiual city map grid so city planners can properly plan their cities for defense and ascthetics and I want them to only be vulnerable at certain times so the two sides can rally up and fight as opposed I goto your city at 4 AM and screw you, your city and anybody who is invested in your city over, Even though this is mostly a game of players I want NPC cities to be around to atleast give people ideas for how to make their own and where to buy stuff for the begining of the game because their are no player crafters or economy.
I want destroyed structures (and cities) to disapear when they have smoldered enough so as not to take up space on the game map.
I truely want this game to be a land at war with great rewards and terrible losses for those who win and loose in the wars
though about those terrible loses I mean like loosing your city assets not something that will permagimp you besides most guildleaders/city runners can get money quickly - prolly from taking money from dupers knowingly or not.
I dont want anybody crafting the sword of IPWNU or the armor of you cant touch this.
if anything crafted high end stuff should be good but not skill shattering (The creator of the twin sword style Musashi would pwn katana users with a boken) if anything MMO developers are working to drive rare item prices down to discourage farming.
I dont really want incarceration to be implemented because its like a account suspession
besides I can call for my guildies over teamspeak to break me out and make your life miserable - no its not fair but if I didnt do it somebody else would.
I dont want the anti combo scripting software to be the sole determiner if somebody has disciplinarian action taken against their account
I dont trust AI nearly that much some people are quite good at pulling off combos - that I didnt even think were possible until somebody lashed the whip on my back and taught me how to do them.
if somebody does the structure making combos (or whatever they do) I want them to make fully customizable structures
as well as some stylish predefined building designs for those of us that are artistically disinclined.
I dont want stupidly complicated combos as that will limit the good Martial Arts effectiveness in combat
in other words I dont want to see the hard core murders use some easier martial art to pwn more advanced martial artists because the less advanced martial arts combos are easier more reliable and have a greater chance to complete the combo and beat them for that sole reason alone.
I want Magical Banks where I can access my stuff from any bank
its not realistic but it is so convient especially if you can be murdered anyware.
Even though I dont have the preorder that gives the unique items I want them to be upper tier crafted items.
I want starting kits as well to help spur the economy.
And I want unrestricted PVP
I want to beable to pk and have hordes of raging antipks and carebears trying to hunt me down in a righteously indiginate rage - well I'm not to prone to PK somebody unless my guild is out farming GoldFarmers and raiding people looking for a good fight, my guild probably wont be interested in comming to a MMOFighter game but I have always liked the fact that I could be pked at anytime in a game - though in truth most people dont go out and cause grief even in free pvp games, but I'm sure everybody will like the idea of pking the traitors on their own side.
This is kinda iffy as in I dont know how it will work but, I want furniture that will give its owners temporary buffs every now and then if they activate it in their house
to encourage people to to buy furniture as opposed to having empty houses in alot of games only people who are litterally throwing money away will furnish their house and most players wont even buy a house.
Please forgive my sporatic use of punctiuation.
and I tried to make this post fit the thread rules but that may have made what I said even more broken :p

Heres My thingies that i came up with:
Territories - Since players will have the ability to build towns and cities, and in some cases, palaces and empires. In the situations of wars and battles, i think there should be an object that indicates ownership of that city or town. Kind of like a checkpoint, ex. a scroll, or sword, or special object that whoever owns it and meets its requirements, owns whatever land it claims. This way, there wouldnt be meaningless battles for lands, and when fights do start or end, there would be an official way to decide the owner of the land without argueing with words.
War VS Random Kills - Since war was treated back then as an honorable and official duel between countries. I think it would be a nice idea to have some way to seperate a real War from random killings and fightings. Like, maybe a game mechanic that really does indicate which kingdoms are at war with each other, but nothing too radical as to limit the possibilities of war.

I want to beable to build ports that can build ships in cities near the sea.
I want ships because if somebody angers tomany guilds and gets put on tomany KOS lists they can still travel by sea to bypass hostile territory and I like pirates.
this may be unrealistic but I want 1 person who takes the helm to control where and how it will move
it doesnt need to be uber complicated nor should it require uber VOIP to cordinate with the player crew to run a ship in a game
I do want ship passengers to have something to do.
maybe they can serve as marines or pirates and board ships I dont know if feudal japan had cannons but if they did all the better.
I'am not sure about this but I want everybody to be peasants until they swear fealty to a clan.
this may please antipks and carebears but the fact that you can be banished from a clan and KOS to a city will be a deterent to RPKs who want to cause trouble in other peoples clans though their will be RPK guilds.
if the game isnt free pvp I dont want the wars to be consensual.
yeah I made some unrealistic suggestions for the sake of useablity but name one war that was ever started by consent besides it horridly blunts pvp
I want a peak left and peak right and maybe peak up and down buttons.
so when I'm hiding in the forest I can still look from behind the trees or buildings while minimizing the profile I cause against the object
I want shadows to be cast on rice paper walls
Note - if their isnt a in game benefit people probably wont do stuff so for cultural reasons
for instance in traditional japan if I'm not mistaken smoking hemp was apart of marrage (if I'm right) make it so you can get the special ingame connection of being married without smoking some hemp with the appropriate people
I want a selection menu for which martial arts I'm using
this will help with the different combos and preventing different martial arts combos from having the same key sequences and may allow their to be a greater number of Martial Arts in the game. It would work like this you click on the Martial Art you wanna use or more then one Martial Art you want to use if their is supplemental martial arts and you can only do combos in that group of martial arts. This also might make Martial Arts impossible to make your self or making a Martial Art could be constructed like a crafting event.
I want some exotic foreign martial arts like Shaolin Kung Fu and An Ch'i but not alot of them actiually just used sparingly.
they would be rare to learn not neccessarily hard to learn (chinese martial artist would be persecuted) and look somewhat alien when used but entirely balanced, maybe even better used by NPC quest bait.
I want to be able to take my enemies heads as trophies
if their will be no global chat then I want a global email system
maybe like messanger pigeons or however the japanese sent mail in medieval times at least for city owners to coordinate defense, in japan these were messengers and sending a message was expensive.

Musical Instruments and the "skills" to go with them!
Limited inventory - can only carry what a person can carry (i.e. I cannot 15 swords in my pocket).
Dying! - but with the ability to pass on x% of skills and posessions to a new character.
Important historical figures!
Gambling! Dice games were very popular then, right?
Perma Injuries - like limps, missing eyes, lost hands - resulting from close fights.
FREE to Play (hey, I can wish, right?).

- I don´t like the fact, that if you get pked, anybody is able to steal all of your items! I think, things like weapons, armors and stuff like that should stay in your possession.
(maybe a Bank-system or something)
- you should be able, to create 2 or maybe even more characters at the same time.
- the charakter-design-menu should be very very various. many many different hair cuts, hair colours, eye colours, skins, body physiques, maybe even the age of a characters body (14 - 16years old, 16 - 18, 18 - 24, 24 - 30,...,50 - 60, and so on!!!)
- Things like "Unique-Items" would be greate! For Example: the player completes a difficult quest and is now able to design his very own Item (weapon or armor or...; name, picture, description, ect...)

Religion- incorporate a religious aspect maybe having religious NPC fanatics or being rewarded with karma or inner strength for loyal fellowship to the religious codes
Seasonal activities- halloween costumes! Easter eggs! Happy Hour! :)
Giant NPC invasions everyonce in a while, players need to bond together to fight em back
Owning wagons- sell stuff, live off of a wagon - traveling merchant
Age system- maybe start out as a young boy/girl and grow (depending how healthy you are (battle wounds, diet, physical fitness, etc.) lifespan differences

Add Racoon Dogs/Tanuki to your Beastiary.
These animals appear in numerous legends, folktales, paintings and statues throughout Japan. Please include them.
Add Monkeys to your Beastiary.
They are one of the most prominent figures in Japanese folktales. They have many statues and carvings throughout Japan as the monkey is thought to guard against Oni and disease as well as to be a patron of fertility. You can read more about them here (http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/monkey-saru-koushin.html) .
Add Birds to your Beastiary.
Birds appear in many paintings and even folktales. How can birds be left out? At the very least we should see swans, cranes, black birds(ravens/crows), sparrows, and green pheasants(a widely hunted bird). You may find this list (http://web.sfc.keio.ac.jp/~kazuko/menu/birdlist.html) of birds that are native or that migrate yearly to Japan helpful.
Add fish and turtles to your Beastiary.
"Buddhist teachings have influenced people's attitudes toward animals. Until late in the nineteenth century, for example, almost no Japanese would slaughter a four-legged animal, relying instead on fish for their animal protein." I don't know how reliable this quote's source (http://web-japan.org/factsheet/flora/culture.html) is, but Japanese have always had a soft spot for fish. You see them in their gardens, in paintings, and I believe also in folklore. Fish are a major staple of the Japanese diet and have been since way back when. And turtles, you can't have legends of the Kappa without turtles! They also make a rather delicious meal.
Allow players to create masks that can be worn.
I may be alone in this, but I'm crazy about Japanese legends and folktales. I'd like to be able to play as a mountain monk that sometimes or often wears masks to give rise to legends such as the Tengu, the Oni, the Akuma, the Kappa, the Kitsune, the Gaki, and the Tanuki.
Allow players to construct outfits out of all types of materials.
This goes more along with the masks. I'd like to be able to create a robe of feathers to go along with my Tengu mask. I'd like to take turtle shells and create a sort of back pack from them, and make a hat with a bowl on it to pose as a Kappa. And of course you could make more useful items, such as quills from feathers(those pheasant feathers would come in handy here), or to add things to armor/items to use as decoration.

thought id rub the magic lamp and make my 3 wishes :D
I second the idea of an ageing system- everyone starts at 16-18 ages from then on and other things like if you get cut really bad as you age it will turn into a scar
Basic-intermediate-advanced acrobatics- you start off with basic acrobatics rolling, jumping, hanging on to edges pulling yourself up etc...etc.
Then you would move on to the intermediate acrobatics able to use items like grapling hooks and shuko(ninjas wore these on their hands to help them scale walls and climb better) and ashiko(ninjas wore these on their feet to help them climb better and scale buildings aswell),higher jumping, rolling speed increased etc.
then you reach advanced acrobatics higher jumping, flips, rolling replaced with front back and side hand springs, jumping off walls etc etc
realistic physics, collision detection and animation- if you get knocked back into a wall i wanna see the person actiolly hitting the wall and taking some damage or some damage done to the wall, if someone gets punched in the gut really hard they should be dazed for a couple moments etc. the animations should flow seamlessly into the next and there should be enough different animations to not make anything repetitive and couse the player to get bored

Wow!
If just some of all of these ideas are implemented we're about to have a really original, realistic historical world to live in.
I think this is going to be a great game/world! (I'm soo excited... Can't help it.) :) And now I think the R/D team have little work to do... :p
Someone posted some of this already, but I want to add mine and cheer for the ones I've read:
- Important -> Facial expressions (its been said before, but it's great!)
- (Hair growth - ability to tie/untie and so on) (also been said before, maybe to much coding for this, but great also though)
- Maybe the possibillity to get dirty of mud. You know it was pretty muddy this actual period. And to be able to wash it off. Showers, hot baths and so on. (Maybe it's just boring?)
- Geisha quarters and all that - no hardcore - just for realism.
Stomis

Well bullet link doesnt work so here it goes.
- Give us reason to explore these lush worlds. Things like components for our armor that arent grueling to get but more adventurous.
- Being able to mix weapons style moves. Such as someone who was previously a Katana weilder that masters a different weapon will have Katana type attributes reflected in their Bo or Naginata moves.
- Mixing defensive and offensive sets however they are applied to the game.
- Some defense of flucuation of economy. The key example is SWG where as doing missions progressed you nowhere near the amount of money you neaded and looting whoring was everyones solution. I wouldnt like to see player made swords and armor cost 100000gold (or whatever is chosen) and you make 2gold per mission. IE once again SWG good weapons costing 50million and missions paying 7000.

I don't think you have to worry, Stormis. The economic system in SWG seems considerably different from the one planned for Tatsumaki, where one will have to be realistic in their prices in order to survive economically in the game.
I'd be interested in seeing a free-form paper implementation. I guess a drawing program more-or-less. So players will be able to create hand-drawn maps, notes with kanji/kana/etc. and what not. Which is a really, really pick wish for this early in development. ^_^

Hi, just joined and pre-ordered, since this is something I really like. I have extended knowledge and interest in this era of Japanese history and in Japan in general. Also I have trained years in martial arts, karate, kempo and ninjitsu. So I am really looking forward to this :)
Source of Inspiration - Villages
I would strongly recommend watching the movies from Akira Kurosawa for getting some inspiration about how the Japanese era looked like. And specifically the layout of the villages. Akira Kurosawa filmography (http://www2.tky.3web.ne.jp/~adk/kurosawa/filmo/AKfilmo.html)
Historic Figures
Would be nice to see figures in some sort of role in this game, and of course not usuable as a player name. I.e. Takeda Shingen, Yamamoto Kansuke, Oda Nobutura etc etc.
Takeda
Another great Japanese series, both rich on beautiful pictures and samples how this era in Japanese history looked like is the Takeda series, about the great battle of Kawanakajima. Takeda Shingen (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0467512/)
Mickey Mouse
Generally would be nice if it's not going to be a 'mickey mouse' version of this Japanese era. I mean like the terrible movies made in the USA, where ninja's flies like birds and karateka cracks rocks with their head.
Culture
Culture flourished in this era and was only very small influenced by the Chinese and very tiny by some contact with the Dutch in that time. So watching shogun is inaccurate. :P But what i mean to say is, that some professions like entertainer, cook, calligrapher would be nice to implement. Entertainment in form of music or theatre was very cultivated and important. And can be i.e. a side-profession of a Spy to gain information from another Damyo. Or a profession on itself.

Some kind of built in MP# player so you can play your own music files
Limited carrying weight that will effect actions.
A 3rd person influence in PK'ing and loss of items. If said 3rd person sees a mugging taking place or a looting of a corpse, he can stop the thieves and donate the items to family gaining karma for himself
Physical interaction with other player-characters. Say you wanted to kidnap someone or carry an injured person away, even if it's against their will.

Two reasonably shallow things that I would like to see in the game:
-Physical shape varying depending on how much physical exercise you get so that you could start off a big manly warrior but then retire and become a chef and get fat. This should perhaps be turn off-able at character creation so you can have perminantly skinny or fat characters if you want. If I were being a pirate or a manly Heihachi-ish karate feller I would want to have a perminant barrel-shaped body.
-Haircuts so that if you get bored with how your character looks you can change them a bit. Also then you can have wacky hair obsessed characters which I think would be funny.

Perhaps a prerelease of some rough maps of the world Tatsumaki is placed in (even if it is geographically the ssame as Japan.)Nothing too specific, maybe showing where mountains and plains are, major rivers, just so that those of us who wsh to be land owners or start families can try to plan out the general area we want to work in.
also, Having diferent regions to start in. Just an Idea.

But, say you just randomly attacked somebody, think of this in a real life situation. You would have the authorities after you and have to evade them or just take the penalties.
I want Pvp to be more modest in situations instead of attacking someone at anytime. More modest as in, You put a sign in the middle of town announcing who, when, and where you want to fight this person.
The only place where Pvp should be without restrictions should be in the midst of a battle.
Pvp should be an event like back in Medievel Japan not just a spur of the moment thing without any penalties.

Also, SOmething I saw in WoW that I really Liked. The animals in the Environment interected with eachother occasionally. If we have scabards then i think it would be cool if we would be able to use them to fight like instead of having 2 swords use one and when you need 2 just use the scabard
selmo
01-30-2007, 11:26 AM
granted most scabards couldnt do much in teh way of parrying a sword....i think that idea isnt very likley. Seeing as on more then one occassion a sharp sword has cut through its own scabard when being drawn...if used to directly block a blow it would either shatter or but cut in half. It just is not practicle because for it to be a decent 'weapon' it would need to be made out of harder stuff then leather or wood and then if you have a iorn or steel scabard, why not ditch that weight and carry two swords? would prolly weigh less then an iorn scabard
just a personal thought
Hige Katsumori

Then the two swords wouldn't have scabbards?
Because then you'd be getting more weight than with a metal sheath...

I would be worried about a closed economy, the rich people would get richer and the new poor people would get poorer. I like the idea on Eve how you can see what others are selling things for. It helps with inflation.
Idea 1: I would love a game thats crafting system was as good as its fighting system. Both having lots of depth.
Idea 2: A fighting system that makes you anticipate your opponent's attack and counter-attack.
Idea 3: A complex sword making process
Idea 4: No more "kill 90000000 frogs to get to level 9" I know there will not be levels but keeping the quests interesting and non-repedative with story lines would be great, and keep up the great work !

nah if u had 2 swords u could have 2 lightweight sheaths, to have an effective weapon sheath it would hafto be ade of metal, and end up being heavier then the sword cause it hasto be enough metal to encase the sword

I really hope you make the death system somewhat permanent that still allows you to continue your skills. I want to see people value their lives. I liked the "have a son" idea that was used a while ago. So when you die you lose your character, but regain your skills and posessions in the new character who inherets it. It would make assassination meaningful.
selmo
02-01-2007, 03:10 PM
nah skills are too personal to regain imo, I mean maybe if you nerfed the skills a bit...cause say the father dies, there is no way the son is the exact skill replica of the father, you could say that the child begins developing towards being like the father, but death is meaningless if all that changes is your name. plus all possessions on your persons corpse i say should be free for the taking

Well, you'll remember the combos you learned, and your offspring will have followed in your footsteps, same martial art (if any) Posessions on the body should be free for the taking, I agree, but stuff left at your house or in a safe stop should be for your son to keep. The most important part about your death is that the character (actual name and rank) no longer exists. That's what I think at least. I just want to see some form of permanent death, otherwise killing will be pointless, and assissins will be little more than a class.

well death is kinda already decided, but i think it'd be cool if it just screwed your character up for a bit, like draining his 'stats' (the attributes) until you get medicine or rest for a while or something like that. Also body should be completely lootable

Familynames only for buke and kuge characters
Historically, only buke and kuge (i.e. samurai and nobility at the Imperial court) had the right to bear familynames. It took up until the Meiji emperor, who ordered all subjects to use familynames, which explains why samurai names such as Watanabe, Tanaka and Maeda are so extremely wide spread these days (as far as I remember, Watanabe is the Japanese Smith today). In feudal Japan a commoner was known by his profession or his homevillage. So we'd have a Sanjiro the fisherman and Kaede from Otaki, but certainly no Fujiwara Gennosuke the lumberjack or worse, an Oda Nobushige the tanner. Rich merchants, though, could have a way of buying themselves into a samurai family (samurai owes a merchant money, samurai can't pay, thus adopts the merchant's son), though this really started to happen during the Edo Jidai. However, it could be used here, too. Also, commoners could rise in the ranks, as proven not only by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but others, too. Should this happen, a commoner would have to take a familyname.
Eta actually being eta
Eta, the outcasts, did the dirty work, literally. Blood and death related work, such as tanners, was only done by eta. They're necessary for a settlement to work, but they are not necessarily treated and seen as humans.

The list tag link is not working for me. Here is what I want for the game though...
-Free to Play the game itself, with options to purchase in-game items (weapons, etc.)
-Shinobi, Samurai and Sohei gear (weapons, armor, etc.) all in-game. Even though Tatsumaki specified that there would be no classes, I still think it would be a good option to customize your character into something other than just a typical samurai.
-Unconventional ninja weapons like tessen (fans), sleeve darts, and so forth would be nice
-NPC driven storyline. I don't exactly know how to explain this, but Acclaim's 9Dragons does it well. Basically, besides just the option to enjoy the game through fighting and a number of professions, NPCs in the game could also keep you busy with quests (that could sometimes even involve things other than gathering items and fighting).
-Historical NPCs. This would really bring me into the game. Even though I don't know much about the feudal period of Japan before they got gunpowder, I still would like to see some of the real daimyo from the era that Tatsumaki is based on in the game. The inclusion of some post- Japanese gunpowder age famous daimyo in the pre- Japanese gunpowder age Tatsumaki would make the game even better in my opinion.
-All Islands of Japan present in the game.
-It would be even better if there was a system that allowed you to get your own ship to sail to the different islands of Japan (including the small ones aside from Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku, Kyushu and Sado). If there was also a ship-fighting system, and the option to be a Japanese wako (pirate), it would also be pretty cool.

A few ideas.
-player run Yakuza's (might be difficult to make but this IS the wishlist afterall)
Like the family system but you can choose to make a criminal organization where you get to be the Boss (founder of Family) and you can hire/recruit more players to your organization to do your bidding like extortion/assassination and you would be able to make treaties with local npc/pc runned shops and stores and offer some "protection" or similar to them (along with buying them out of business and using their stores as fronts to their more illegal operations
-Player run Temples/Hotels/Inns/Restaurants/Bathhouses
Wouldnt it be nice to own a little Inn or a Restaurant in a little village or along some small roads leading to other villages or mountain tops, or own a small Bathhouse in the middle of a forest high in the mountains, wjere you could go after a long walk or a battle perhaps to relax and regain some of that lost energy (Springs in the mountains would have healing properties)
To be continued (prolly)

-Headgears
Actually I didn't see many things about headgears... I know it's pretty obvious to have them, but I think it should have a big variety of it, too, because there were many straw hats and masks, like only face-covering ones and others for the whole head ( I know face covering is almost useless, but it's cool) and some other things that would make the character style prettier...
-Scars
AND, one of the best things, that I don't remember any comment about it... but... About scars. Like, you can't take a hit in your face that makes it bleed a lot and go away like nothing happened... and also, scars would make pretty much good charactes...
Correct me if I'm wrong, or if I did say something other person did, but I don't quite remember anything like that...
I don't think I have much more to say, then, see you!

-Scars (for the tenth time)
If theres gonna be that perma-death or some sort, then the scar thing would look cool, when the newbies would have pure skin, veteran fighters would have huge scars in their chest and back, otherwise, if theres not gonna be perma-death, then it would look stupid if some longer-played chars would have like "omg 10k million scars" in their chest which would look stupid, so basically, perma-death=scars, no perma-death=no scars?
-Clothing (some ideas)
Maybe i have watched too much anime but it would look more ninja like (for those who wanna be ninja/ninjitsu char) if there would be linen bandage (you know, that white, long bandage type which you put over long injuries) which you could put under other clothes and it would show a bit under a shirt or the like=über coolness?

Oh yes, I forgot...
Scars-
They get all over the body! specially in the face... Not just 3 layers of scars for everybody in the same place.... I think you got me...
Kusoyaro, I don't really mean stupid to not have PD and have a bunch of scars, like, a scar isn't a show off thing about your strenght neither experience, they are the lack of skill to defend yourself and/or something from your past. Those who use a scar to show everyone you fought much are hopeless. They would be able to cut themselves and show everybody later... It wouldn't make difference to those who didn't see... Hehe.

I was reading about people suggesting an aging system where characters will physically age as time progresses, if that hasn't been shot down yet, I'd like to add a bit to it. Perhaps add in bonuses and penalties to each age group, for example, a person in their late teens and lower 20s would typically be faster and have more energy than an older person, but would lack the strength that comes with having fought (or smithed, or whatever you choose to do) for several years like a person in their mid 30's would have. However, what those even older lose from not being youthful anymore, they make up for with experience.
HeniuriSaito
04-05-2007, 11:26 AM
Aging is somewhat cool, but too hard to program and all, and it'd have to have lots of facial textures for aging and everything. The least I think we should be able to change hair color to whatever color we like :D of course in japan that time it was only black and white, some few brown... VERY VERY few blondes... but having a red or white hair being young is really cool :D I mean... The red from wine, not that rust red...

I suppose here are mine most wanted
By request smiths but engravings into blades, quality of blades vary pending smiths skill and use of materials. this allows for better smiths to get more prestiege and ablity to charge more for better katana than usual generic sword bargin in most games.
Wide varied of armor; the metal headbands the Shinsengumi wore those were awesome for keeping your head. Many traditional clothes.
Many ryu: made up and systems: Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu (also known as battojutsu) naginata, yari, shuriken, yumi, jitte, tessen, Nodachi, bokuto (bokken: wood sword) and Tachi. This once again adds for a wide varrity of uses for each weapon allowing for every battle expreience to be different.
Once you learn you move you have to improve it. Just because sensei taught the newest kick ass kata doesn't mean you any good at it. It takes practice or battle expreience to employ it.
Ability to teach other techniques: Once sensei grants ceretificate of mastership or whatever you wish to call it you can open a dojo and teach your ryu or school style to a new generation.
I would really like the ability to design and create many different kinds of kimono in the game. The ability to put a family symbol on the back or throughout the fabric would be awesome. I had a lot of fun with clothes in CoH and the variety of character and clothing customizations is imo one of the best things in that game. I don't think it is a very complex game but very slick design.
When creating a weapon, having a very large number of customizations for that would be the cat's meow.
thx

While i was reading the Articles of tatsumaki.. for 5th time already -_-''
but while reading the teaching part i thought that it could sound/look very stupid and irritating for the teacher and students if everyone would juz scream "Yo SENSEI! whats this and what u do with that!!" "answer me!!!" especially when this game will succeed big time :)
To the point!
There could be a system when the students would like to ask something they could raise their hand or stand up (which one or what ever is used in japan) and the teacher/sensei would have something like the "attachment i made"
or juz plain click on the one who wants to ask something and while clicking also permitting him to speak.
i'll post more into here when i think of more ^^' and if i am doing something horribly wrong please tell me -_-'' and also tell me ur opion plz :)
i juz noticed there is another thread where ppl post their ideas and i dunno how to delete *blush*
ty for putting this to right section :) and since i already made it i might aswell use it ^^'
I thought that Tracking would be very useful skill, it could be a "hunter" skill which u would learn by hunting (like after u hav killed 1k-10k rabbits or somt) or from npc.
It could work like.. u select or click ur target and once u click it, it starts leaving footprints.
If leaving footprints on the ground will be a regular thing then the one with tracking skill would see em more clear or slightly highlighted with some color or juz see em better.
another thing i was wondering about was how the name(s) would be shown in game, like a text above u or if someone would move over with mouse they would see ur name.
my idea would be that name could only be seen when the person talks, then seen in chat box.
people could recognize u by ur equipment or facial features but, then there could be copycats who would copy someone else's looks and do crimes. Sure the npc guards and such will recognize the difference but players wouldnt and that could bring trouble yet still thats how its in RL too.. only in RL u dont copy someones face so easily.
btw i was also thinking what camera angle will there be, fps, 3rd person?
(i checked with search if there was anything about tracking skill or about name and i didnt find anything .. might have missed)

well i suppose this is the only place i dare to put this.. --> well actually ---v ^^'
ok, so while i was reading about familys (articles) "you will be allowed to create a family (Undecided, how this will work). You will pick a name following the rules above, and submit it to us: We will return the Hiragana (Japanese “symbols” used to represent sounds) symbols, as well as an approval notice."
well doing that would and will be very bothersome.. i mean to T:LaW GMs like said b4 when this game hits golden there will b lotsa ppl , who make familys
but if they would select the name from something like this :)
http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/1963/guildnamethingyed0.th.jpg (http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=guildnamethingyed0.jpg)
all u would have to do is check that they dont make any curse word named guilds (the green arrow takes u to next page where there r more alphabets)
another thing is that having a long name (written in hiragana) on characters sleeve, chest, back and where ever, would look ..very similar to every other family..
So i would suggest that u could either make an crest/emblem in game or u could post it into T:LaW forum (family crest section) and from there u, GMs, would update it like every 2 weeks or so.
I try to think of the "crest creator", like the least effort to make with the most results and plz say something about these ^^'

How about the ability to build your own sword.
all weapons are equal in the sence that they don't have a hit damage on them
(ie.Katana has 20-28 damage when struck and Bo has 10-15.)all weapons are deadly.
all damage done by weapons is determined by how hard the player hits with it.
like if you don't block a strike from a sword you can get killed with one hit.
Man tracking being able to sea foot prints in the dirt snow or even through the mourning dew.

May I expand on that?
Smithing will be open to Pay to play accounts so if you want to expand on that basically. The tsuka, the color tsuka wrap, what materials, fittings (koshirare) made of bronse, silver, gold, hamon (temper line) a smiths sort of signature style of heat treating a sword, (outside of his actual signature in the mei), the kissaki style the curvature in the blade, overal length, handle length, blade length (for example cause it does matter a sword with large handle and sort blade is quick and a easy to draw). Same with Bo its length the wood its made out of (white oak, red oak, solid ebony, Japanese iron wood ) and person that uses it. for example a short man 4ft won't be able to handle a 6ft Bo staff very well without adapting to hit and training with it.
No common misconception although a katana can kill with one cut. It pends on the quality of the sword and your technique. In effect a shinken droped can cut better. Than novice using it to cut.
So in these cases and hopefully no they won't all be equal in hit damage a its not the generic hit point thing like in video game its like actual Japanese sword. a weapons (power) should be determined by the smith skill and work, the rare materials and the user.

I think if the sexism was presented in a purely historical way and didn't limit the female experience but rather made it difficult in a different way. Like Men have to live up to the expectation of their masters, and women have to gain the respect of their masters. so that that in the beginning both struggle but are not limited in how they can play.

Having blood loss, temperature ranges and realistic medicine and first aid.
Blood loss perhaps leading to death (1.must lose a good portion of blood and not be 30%. 2. no transfusions of blood may be made, making it all the more important to make treatment prompt) or at least the worst possible included consequence.
Temperature ranges having an ideal range, while going too far lower will send one into hypothermia and going too far above the range will result in hyperthermia(heatstroke) hypothermia resulting in increasing illness and hyperthermia would result in exhaustion and/or collapse.
Realistic medical care and first aid would include the need to find things to act as a splint, make bandages and apply them correctly, learn how to remove foreign objects without causing further harm. (this would apply to arrows, throwing weapons and the like taken to the extremities, and would likely take a very skilled surgeon to remove, say cutting the shaft off of an arrow and cutting the skin around the head to attempt to remove it)

Aiming with bow: You can aim, like in a FPS with the bows, different bows are different to aim with...
Big landscape: If you need to travel to another place you can't just jump in a teleporter, you have to hire a horse, or take yours if you have one, and the travel nearly all day, ofc you can do many things under the journy

-Players having their names hover above their heads is unrealistic and inconducive to genuine roleplaying. Introductions should be made in game, and when no introduction is intended (as with assassination attempts, or just unfriendly people) there should be no easy way to address a stranger.
*One idea I had concerning this; records could be kept through intelligence gathering networks (of players) of other players descriptions/parameters, like skin tone, height/weight, facial "features." These records would reveal to those who'd memorized or perhaps merely had access to them the names of those players included in the records (in the form of tags above their heads, though perhaps just when you mouse over them). In this way, a Shogun or any leader could keep track of possible threats to him from inside and to a lesser extent, outside his realm of influence. Obviously an accurate description would rely on a good artist to capture the image, and would be much less useful if a player described in your records is disguised or wearing a mask/hood.
*Also, any players who wished to be able to readily identify one another, as with various members of a family, clan or rl companions, could arrange permanent tags through a strong association mechanism, like a "friends" list. After all, you've known someone a long time, you can recognize them behind a mask, by their voice, or even their stride. Through this social mechanism, the bite will be taken off of not having player tags, and the dangers of meeting strangers in the wilderness will become more real. Additionally, players who are clever enough may use this device to tag their enemies. Now that would be roleplaying!
-Travel needs to be paced to the time period, with horses and wagons/carts and feet as primary options. Quick travel as found in other MMOs will distort the natural state of the economy of the era. The travelling merchant needs a motive for travel, the goods unique to a given area need to fetch a higher price in distant markets, and merchant trains with pc/npc hired escorts should be a sight to behold, welcome in any village, town or city! Warfare would also be burdened by unrealistic transportation. Traditional strategem of the time would mean very little with armies capable of amassing in a variety of disparate locations in a given moment or hour. The "art of war" would not see the light of day in-game with quick travel implemented. Also, slower travel will support roleplaying and make the world stretch on, perhaps seem larger than it is, a definite plus for a good MMO.
-Death needs to be felt throughout Japan...war exacts a tremendous cost, murderers are truly evil men/women, not just somebody to inconvenience you. Players need every reason to appreciate civilisation. Long travel times and safety will greatly increase the appeal of participating in populous settlements, bustling economies. Rebellions will not accumulate mass appeal accept under very oppressive circumstances, due to the needs that a stable society will meet in the economy and for the players.
*Because of the finality of death, it could be that players would enjoy a "3 strike your out" policy, to give them opportunities to be injured/crippled, scarred, and time to ponder the possibility of retiring into the economy rather than face certain eventual death. This process would generate war veterans, a realistic and beneficial part of any society, and they would be created in a realistic manner to boot.
*The free for all pvp quality is extremely important to the permadeath/reincarnation mechanic. Without each player having the choice to kill or live in peace with his/her neighbor, peace is meaningless, even in a game.

NPC guards that expand their patrol area when they find a body (or a crime taking place). More guards get generated based on alert (e.g. 1 guard for a theft, 3 for a body, lots for a fire during a killing spree.)
Something similar for animals around their dens/lairs.

Net-Code friendly dynamic fighting
This is an idea I had for a dynamic fighting system that won't bog down a server. The way I figure it a server updates every 300ms. My idea would update every second. The idea is simple you press an action, then during the next update it performs an action(1 sec delay). In the time until the server calculates the result of actions done by various clients, and then performs that action while the players lock in the next action to be done in the next update.
With this you can add more of a fighter element to the game that is about thinking. There is more to this but it would be a pretty long post if I got into detail
Foundation building system
This is an idea I had to make organizing buildings less of a mess. First you have building block elements that are a certain size. You can place models that fit this size into those block elements. Then there is a base element like a buildings foundation that has 1 big block element.

Idea:
How about an empirical system. Maybe, something like a mandate of heaven, where it could act like "King of the hill" in a sense. Families could battle over it; The longer it's held, the more bonuses and penalties. Like, a families economy increases as the mandate is held, along with their allies, increasing the chances of other families attempting to ally with you. Though if it's held for too long you could be seen as a tyrant, and lose favor from local towns: Riots, merchants choosing not to trade, and perhaps other families could then gain bonuses froming taking the "mandate" back.

I have an idea or two :P
well here goes:
1: When you turn into a shinobido or go through special training you will be able to climb trees and from that snipe someone or just jump on him. Somewhat like a surprise attack :P
2: Being able to set traps for humans AND animals you hunt that are attacking you ^^
I dunno if this was already mentioned if it was im sorry the thread was way to long to read ^^
