Winter. A lonely mansion far away from any bigger town. The snow was falling the complete night. A fresh breeze through the paper windows promised a new land born of snow waiting for its new conquerors. She was lying next to him feeling his warm body enjoying the peace every winter promised her. No fight, no war no sorrows to fear. Nobody could reach this distant region without passing one of the highest passes in Japan. With so much snow falling there was no trespassing in these days. She listened her household awaken. The silent steps of one of her servants passing the door only interrupted for some short seconds to pick up the bucket in front of her sleeping room. He woke up and turned to her. “Hello my love. Are you all right?” “Isn’t it a wonderful morning?” she answered. “We will see the first sunbeams soon. Let’s get up.” He tried to force her to get up but she was still a little bit tired. The last night was hard work for her but he had enjoyed it and that was the main point. With a few steps he reached the window and opened it. “Oh, come on. Please shut the window. It gives me the creeps.” He didn’t react so she could only admire his wonderful muscular body and his well disciplined mind ruling his body. He proclaimed: “I’ll go outside for a run.” He grabbed his training closes, a simple kimono and wooden sandals, and left her room. She was alone again as the most time of her life. Forced from a cold breeze the geisha stood up and closed the window. She wandered through the room gathering all her clothes. While she ordered a bath and a breakfast he left the building.
With a deep breath he started to run down the path which was freed from snow every day. He ran through his village watching his loyal subjects working. He knew he was a good lord. No one was hungry here in his village and he was proud about it. Years ago in another century for his mind he got to know what hunger can mean. It was a winter like this with nearly the same war which was waiting outside this peaceful district and season. The crop was burned down from highwaymen and his family was forced to kill all their cattle to survive the winter. At that time he decided that it would never happen to him. He invented a secure system for storing food so that even with a destroyed crop he and his subjects would have enough to eat past the whole winter. Thinking about province was his way to gather the peace he needed in his mind to be one of the best samurais of his lord.
