As Jin runs away with the last survivors of his burning village, he vowed to never forgive himself for not being able to protect his village. As they stopped in a forest for some rest, Jin and his friends agreed to do there best to keep the spirit of their village alive, and never forget their people. After that, they all went their seperate ways, hoping to find a better future.
A few days later, Jin came upon a town, bustling with people and live with action. Looking in his pocket he finds out he only has enough money for some food. But not enough for lodging at an Inn. By nightfall, he had nothing left on him, but some buns and his worn out Nodachi, Feeling tired after a whole day of little food and walking around this giant town, Jin sat down next to a building and slept. Later that night, he heard the screams of a women screaming for help, he wakes up and searches the corners of the towns as fast as he can to the very spot where he finds a lady injured, lying down on the street along with some armored men. Standing near her was a group of men trying to steal her belongings. He pulls out his sword and attacks the muggers, but before he could finish them off; troops of soldiers surrounded Jin readying to arrest him.
Jin, having no other way out, prepared himself for the worst and began attacking the soldiers as they came at him. Jin was overpowered though and was arrested that night and was scheduled for execution at dawn. Jin escaped the morning after with multiple bruises and cuts. After his escape, Jin was outlawed as a murderer and was chased by the government ever since.
Before long, Jin became weary of his running from the law, even though he knew he was innocent, he wanted to give up. He couldnt live like this anymore. But, before he allowed himself to be arrested, he wanted to at least know who was the women that was killed. He came back to the city which he was outlawed by; and their he found information.
From various underground sources, he found out that the women was someone important, and that it was no random act of mugging, it was staged by someone high up, someone who wanted her dead. Apparantly, they had heard of Jin as a vagabond passing through the city, and chosed him as the scapegoat. But, they had underestimated Jin, he took revenge them.
Jin had found the man behind this scheme, and killed him; but before he died, it was revealed that the whole plan went higher than Jin had ever imagined. The plot of this murder went all the way up to someone in the Emporer's Court. Before Jin could interrogate anything else out of him, he was again surrounded by masses of soldiers. This time, Jin barely escaped with his life. Jin, he felt a sense of promise to the women that he would find out the truth behind all of this.
