Sooooo. I got bored at work (surprise! :P ) This is a picture of how I envisioned Hiromi. Just a scribble, was too lazy to paint her or..erase.. but :D i like it. And Trin - don't yell at me! Kazuo's coming ^_~

Very nice! Did you purposely make the background look old / messy? Cause it adds to the scene :P

Aye, totally agree, excellent artwork there Hiromi.
Hey, that's very nice!
Do you use a special type of paper?
Not to say I can draw myself, but I hope you don't mind if I point something out.
The eyes, I would suggest you add pupils. They look, to me at least, a bit zombie-ish. And also that you add a bit more to the middle of the mouth, I can't quite see the expression.
Very nice, perseption on the feet and all.

Heh thanks guys ^_^
Yeah most of my sketches do look a bit zombie-ish. I keep them simple because I plan on painting them - too many lines is a pain in the ass :D Most of the detail comes out in the color.
And that's not actually the paper I used, I just tweaked the colors so it's easier to see. Standard compy paper swiped from my boss' printer is what I doodle on XD But the original doesn't have much contrast so it's pretty muddled.
Haha yeah and the background..er..of COURSE it was on purpose! >.> Actually it was just a mixture of "ehh..I'll erase that later *handsmear* *scribble* *drool*" It's all nice and wrinkly because my cat sat on it. :p
AND TRIN!! If I don't get my story... I'm putting Kazuo in a dress. Maybe a little geisha-kazuo action would be in order. :P hehe just kidding. Take your time hun, no rush on the story because, honestly, if you had told me to rush the Kazuo pic...I'd have told you to shove it. ^_~

Go ahead, I'd love a little criticism. Helps keep my suckage in check ;)

I really should've finished reading that part...because I was up until 4AM writing your introduction. @_@

I like the background accidental effect, It gives it almost an Ink painting style. You should consider using a non photographic blue pencil for you sketching. You need to either shorten the arms or elongate the legs, because from the perspective you used they look about the same length. The breasts seem a bit unnatural as well, I can't figure out if these lines are for shading or unnatural folds in the shirt. The overal presentation of it is wonderful though. I hope I didn't offend ya.
Edit~ OH if you are going for the anime look, Females have a smaller mouth then males. Her's is rather large in comparision to her face/expression, saying she is very masculine.
Edit again~ A tip for drawing Iris's Don't look at your pen, look in between their eyes while drawing them. This will actually make them look like they are focusing!

Hiromi's character is supposed to be pretty tomboyish. That said, though, most of Hiromi's art is not very animeish. She does a great job of developing her own style.

Well, her sig and that is very Anime-ish. The sad thing about anime, Is it's not even Japanese, It's American, The Japanese took the stylings of betty boop. I swear japanese take everything and make it better.

actually when you look at it ... her art style has no resembalance to anime ... one they eyes are all wrong for anime ... two the head doesnt have the shape most animes use... or something like that... it doesnt have that feel to me...
and also .. if japan made anime as a rip off of american cartoons then... what to you call the american cartoons that are a rip off of anime?
Kiros
07-23-2005, 09:01 PM
not really, they are different because they are from different cultures, so neither is ripping the other off, and as for anime.. hiromis pic isnt quite anime, but its great as far as character models go, she should consider animation seriously

A Kazuo sketch, not THE Kazuo sketch - but I like this one a lot - crapped it out in record time before we locked up for the day :D Figured I'd do the Kazuo counterpart to the first sketch in celebration of the awesome story Trin wrote ^_^

Kaze, thank you for the criticism, I'll keep your pointers in mind. Thanks for the pupils tip, I usually leave all eye color out when sketching, that's all added in later, digitally. But thanks again ^_~
Holy crap, I look awesome!

lol, Kazuo kind of looks like Mugen from Samurai Champloo. :D
Funny you say that. I had originally modeled Kazuo after him, but never told Hiromi that. I guess she picked up on it.
Interesting fact: The big difference between Kazuo and Mugen is that Mugen was Ryukyun, and Kazuo is Japanese. I guess they were also born in different eras, but who's counting? :)
