Look on the Japanese names thread... Hirokita Toshima is a good one. Just combine random pre and suffixes of Japanese names to make a new one. Ya, shin, ku, ka, hiro, tosh, ma, etc etc, I will make my own up if I don't use Shado.

Trin is a nick ive used forever, though I won't be using it for Tatsumaki. I'll probably use a short Japanese name.

If you intend to really RP your character, and want a realistic Japanese name, I suggest you look up sites that list baby names. When I'm looking for an RP name for a specific ethnic environment, that's the first place I look.

On the "Japanese - Names" thread there is a link for creating your own name, since most came from translation of normal words, that is way to go I think.

After looking over some names, I'm probably going for either Itsuma, or Kazuo. Thoughts?

What do those names mean, I personally think most names should have some sort of meaning to them. This is open to debate though. Basho for instance is the name of probably the most famous haiku poet from Japan. His name literaly translated means "banana tree"... but the story behind that is that the tree was planted next to his hut, and it was too cold to bear fruit, making it thereby useless. In a humorous way, his name is meant to mean a useless poet or more or less a fruitless poet... a humble take on things most today wouldn't understand. Also needs to be noted that in different stages of their lives, different names were taken, one at birth, one at the coming of age, different life stages dictated that different names be taken, so if you choose one now, perhaps another after you've accomplished rank in your family would be appropriate, etc. As well, I am pretty sure the lower castes didn't take surnames, as those were reserved for the upper castes of society.

I chose the name Kioshi, though I can't remember what the meaning was. I wanted something simple and easy for people to remember. I believe the meaning was something like "Quite one", though I could be mistaken.

Kuraku Hideaki

Didn't catch on as in people liking it or as in people tatting the name on their head, there are different levels of something catching on, hehe. The best name is Toshima Hirokita

1) Name didnt stick well with me
2) People had trouble spelling the name (my friend mainly)
Altogether it was the worst name i could have used.

Names are tough, at least for me; in writing or anything else, names are by far the most difficult thing to come up with.

This one, i believe, is something along the lines of Japanese for "trash recepticle", though i could be way off. I thought it was a clever nickname to use among friends, so it sort of stuck that way. Everything else, i guess it varies on time and context.

Personnally I'm using the name Shira. Its short and to the point. Plus it sounds pretty cool. However I was looking up some random thing in a samurai book and I learned that Shira was actually the name used for a ceremonial Tachi-Katana sword given to great masters of the martial arts.
Now I am convinced that this name is for me.

Shira

Interesting. I think it's a pretty fitting name. Let's hope you can live up to it. :)

I'm sticking with Mitsue so back off!!! It has really touching memories with it!!! Okay...I got Mitsue from the little stamp from the corner of my classwork from Japanese class...Ms. Tanouichi always stamped our paper with みつえ

ToshiMaru...if you still kept the work from her class...look at the bottom left corner of one of the worksheets and there in red ink, a stamp with みつえ in a circle...so that's where I got Mitsue...

Neko is from ToshiMaru.......thanks ToshiMaru...

EDIT
Is that okay now hon? Cuz once I used Toshi, you were trippin on me...

If we're putting dibs on names - I get dibs on "Miaowara Shiro"

From the Samurai Cat (http://people.eku.edu/keefet/KEVIN/samurai.htm) books!! Very fun spoofs for Japan fans. Shiro, and (mostly) his uncle Miaowara Tomokato, can kick just about anyone's butt!

Sun Wukong is the Chinese name for the Monkey King. (What DBZ is, loosely, based on)
From "Journey to the West" - a series of tales around 500 years old.

Not to be confused with the Samurai Pizza Cats (http://www.absoluteanime.com/samurai_pizza_cats/).

Toshimaru, AKA Toshi(dont know why people keep saying that? its the name of my apprentice...) Its really simple, Toshi - is similiar to my real name, and maru is just a common name from a lot of anime. EX. Orochimaru, Rikumaru, Tetsumaru, etc. :outtahere
