Hey,
I was just wondering if upon release players will be able to customize their characters after creation by lets say going to a tattoo parlour and having your character tattooed with traditional Japanese Horimono (Irezumi) tattoos. I think that this would be a hella cool idea to implement into the game.
Open to suggestions of course.

I read up on this and was thinking the same thing, I think there is enough documentation to support at least the possiblity of the idea.

that would rock! I want the kick arse Japanese fisherman tattoos, a full body suit perhaps!

ill probably contain a giant tatoo of 2 black dragons trying to kill a dark purple wolf on my back. And the wolf has a silver katana in his mouth. :bs2:

There may be an option to have tattoos, it really wouldn't be that hard to add - just time consuming to draw all of those tattoos

i think it would be hella worth it and increase the uniqueness and traditionalism of the game tenfold! ^_^

Consider the possibility of opening the tatoos to players to design? A player submits a final design, which passes basic approval by GMs or dedicated tatoo regulator people (many members, little power) if it fits listed rules (must be a traditional tatoo or like a traditional tatoo, and must be in the form in which it will appear in game), then a small council (few members, much power) who have the power to decide if or if not the tatoo should be allowed in the game.
That way if people want a certain kind of tatoo, they can go about getting it designed or google for it, and find one they like, then submit it to be added.

I don't think they should be able to upload them, however - we could allow them to draw a tattoo, submit it, etc..
This would make it so you'd have to find an actual artist in order to get a tattoo ;)

Well, if there were a tatoo option, I would have a picture of a dragon and wolf, of course...

Different clans could have matching tatoos made, that'd be cool.

that would be perfect! that could be how we identify each toher, by certain tatoos perhaps? or that could be the way to identify someone as a member of a certain clan......by their tatoos. Art can be very deadly.

I'm all for it.
I would like to see a wide variety of styles for people intending to make foreign characters. (Chinese, Norse, Portuguese)

ooooh, that would be cool, to have some like Hebrew letters on my character, would be interesting IMO. lol
The only drawback is that everyone knows you by your appearance there. Say your a member of a ninja clan that has a certain tattoo on their arm. Then if anyone found out about your secret you'd wouldn't be able to get rid of the tattoo cover your tracks. So the emporer or whatever could order the execution of anyone wearing that tatoo.

Well, that's also sort of the point, from a roleplaying aspect; "reputation" as it were. Being known as "that warrior with the (whatever) tattoo", etc.
Also, if you're a ninja, well...you wouldn't be much of a ninja if someone caught you, would you?
That being said, i think implementing tattoos is an awesome idea; i would love to have something along the lines of a yakuza tattoo.
Yah it would be cool to see a samurai almost completely covered by tattoos. :D
Kinda like the freaky tattoo stuff they do today.

One annoying factor about tattoos are copycats. Someone claiming to be apart of a family they have no buisness messing with. I can see alot of trouble with that all ready.
Also, I just want to give my thumbs up to the tattoo idea and the inclusion of *custom* tattoos. :D
I could put my girlfriends name across my chest on my character! lol

What better reason to hunt someone down than for disrespecting your family? Also, this might give rise to a whole other "profession", as I doubt the average layman would know even where to begin, possibly tattoo parlors? I'd need to research subject to see how this was done, more realistically it was probably carried out in some sort of ceremony with tight knit underground orginizations.
I wouldn't think that tattoos were that popular back then. I would think they would only be available in the larger cities, where all the crafters and artisans lived. That was real life however. In the game, if it were possible, there could be tattoo artists literary everywhere.

I fully agree on this system. The more character customization in an MMO the better. For no one wants to see some random guy walk past them and they look exactly alike. Evryone wants to be different and unique :) Just a thought.
Exactly! Full customization of a character brings a player and the character closer together and sets the stage for some great RPing.

Oh yes, especialy if you love RP'in. I could think of tons of other way's to make your character look more and more unique but I don't want that much work for the dev's :D

Since lower castes didn't have kamon, perhaps the ronin sects could use tattoos to differentiate their ranks?
Yes that would make sense. Certain tattoos in different areas tell of accomplishments and veteranship. It'd make it easier to spot a higher rank without wearing constricting uniforms.
