... or fools seldom differ?

Excellent suggestion. Implementation would be another story, however.

You never know, an Earthquake could just be a shake of the screen and a loss of energy and mabe a few cuts and bruses, a tsunami could just make certain playes unable to be entered, with a notice like *You hear screeming in the distance, " ?? " Has just been hit by a tsunami!* if you are nearby.

(Sorry, im having a bad creative morning)

Ya that would work really good Arsenal. I think that was a great suggestion. How about mybe if an earthquake is bad enough have trees fall or mybe a house destroyed. Mybe that would take up way to much lag.

Solution? - Use a cutscene, like when the screen closes in and you have a little ingame movie. Then when its finished the screen goes back to normal and you might only have some cracks in the ground and trees like you said. You would see them fall ni the cutscene so you wouldn't have to wait for the strwaming to finish.

maybe not, cuz then EVERY player in the area will have to see the cutscene, and that might cauz a lot of lag or something, besides. I havent seen any MMOG's with a cutscene, EVER!! just the intro movies. Has anyone seen a cutscene in an MMOG?

yeah, mabe yor right mabe they should just shake the screen and make some places unable to be etered - like i said with the tsunami thing earlier. Just as long as we know whats happening i think it will be a fine thing to put in any way they do it!

Or how about in addition to earthquake, volcanoes and tsunami's we have meterorites and when anything hits we all die are accounts are nullified and all credit is lost, advisable money making technique for EOE. ok soz guys i just have a sarcastic flair today, the volcanoes seems a good idea, but with all ideas they can be taken too far and end up distracting from the game rather than adding to it. Beebe out.

Redb@ck when i made this is was just asking from a book i read, and im sure they dont mind if we suggest some things.

Yeah, i think it would be good if they just stick with basic shake screen for earthquake and make water based town unrechable for tsunamis.

keep it simple but still fun and realistic.

but don't you think...that'll slow down the process of whereby the game goes gold? they dun even have enough donations lol. if you make them use more time they spend more money. and for the cutscene, should allow the guy to press esc so he dun need to watch it. But earthquakes aren't that common...you dun see a earthquake come like every 10mins do you? so actually it should be a very very rare event. and volcanoes will bring more land! lol. make the land fertile too.

Kuraku Hideaki

yes i get what your saying. Mabe it should only lead to a special event.

maybe different levels of earthquakes, like small earth quake jus a small shake on screen, n the bigger one destroy buildings but are more rare ( but could be more annoyin than fun because its realism could seem unfair(like y does my building get destroyed n not his etc))

I've seen the screen shake before in UO, for an earthquake spell, and it's not really that complex...I think it's mostly client side?(not sure x.x) Only the effects would be a bit harder, like trees and buildings, but it's still a good idea. It doesn't have to be made when the game starts, since the game won't start with an earthquake...I hope. It could be added in with a patch later on. About tsunamis I don't think an area should become unaccesible, since it wouldn't be too realistic to be walking through the wilderness and suddenly an invisible wall stops you. I'm not sure if that's what you mean...but, I think it could just be like...raising water levels in that area. Would be dangerous to swim in waters that are probably finding its way back to the sea.

hashc0de has an excellent point - implementing such a system would be rather difficult; however! We will try our best to implement it.

Right off hand, the only way I can think of - is to simply involve simple client shaking with variables sent from the server, in certain areas - using something similar to our Weather system to bring it up.

This shaking would just change the game world - it wouldn't have any special physical properties, it'd just make the land go up and down, very quickly - thus causing items to move quite a bit.

Affecting houses - however, is another story... We may have to add another property to houses, a "house health level for earthquakes".

Yes, and you could implement a new skill for builders, "maintenece" then builders could have another way of roleplaying. As a peacefull maintenece worker who loves his job, or someone using it as a cover for an assasination o_0

Houses "health level" would probably alter their appearance aswell. Probably torn walls and such? Just a thought. >.> It would be quite different to start opening your door and suddenly it falls back.

Health of a building would be cool, though the building health would continiously age and decrease, but this should be at a slow rate or else it would be hard to maintain them.
For the earthquakes, they shouldn't be very frequent, though when they do come, they should be very unexpected as well as damaging.
Though the damage and frequency should be based on how big the earthquake is, though small ones still do very little, they shouldn't be very frequent

Kurakushin you should have your cold looked at before it gets out of hand. ;) . The house level sounds like an all-right idea. Beebe out.

I think natural disasters might fall under the 'Event' category. As was aforementioned, earthquakes are not all that common, even in Japan.

since there will be earthquakes, is there a way for someone to know that its going to occur?

my mommy says that animals can tell when an earthquake is going to happen. i don't know. enlighten me on the earthquake thingy.

tsunamis can occur from earthquakes too right? is there also a way to tell a tsunami is coming?

tsunamis have warnig signs when they come. the water level drops very low at the coast area and there are weird unusual kinds of tides forming. if a tsunami is actually seen coming, will it take five minutes to clash into the land like in reality? and will it destroys things instantly in fifteen minutes?

correct me on the tsunami thing if i made an error for i know i probably did.

I think animals can sense the change of barometric pressure for big storms, hurricanes and tornadoes. Not sure about earthquakes, maybe. If any of that is actually implimented in the game I'd be suprised, it'd be difficult to program I think, but would be interesting to see.

I like the idea of earthquakes being "events"
maybe it happens in a certain area and for the next week there will be npc quests asking help in rebuilding homes, catching livestock, ect...
