Yagyu shall review movies here, samurai based mostly.
Todays movie, Ninja Assassin
I felt it was heavy on gory but light on story.
While i did very much enjoy the movie, it had some plot holes.
Such as Ninja running out into traffic breaking their cardinal rule of secrecy to fight the Suppa ninja boy Raizo.
Then there was the whole how did a buncha army jeeps get to a ninja compound in japan on the side of a mountain that was almost a perfect 90 degree angle with no roads.
oh and the annoying hot chick whos sposed to be a forensic investigator for earopol and has no real combat training and is screaming thru the whole movie suddenly at the end has a gun and is taking out ninja left and right lol
Then of course when the annoying hot girl uses the suppa boy Raizo as bait for the ozuno ninja and in one scene her hair is kinda straight and a lil wavy the way it was thru the whole begining of the movie, next scene her hair is super curly lol
Also there was alot of things that werent realistic.
but there was alot of cool things too.
Like the black sands clan, the ozuno ninja, far as i can tell in my research didnt exist. IF u want i can give u names of all the known ninja clans that DID exist lol.
First it was co written by j Micheal strazinscy who if u dont know em, is a comic book writer who has worked on amazing spiderman among other titles.
It had awesome references to Miyamoto Musashis book of 5 rings and recreated the cover of ;ne of the books yagyu munenori wrote, via the final fight scene between raizo and his master ozuno behind the paper screen doors. Alot of the ninja training/abuse was pretty close to what these ninja actually endured.
The special effects were awesome as was the martial arts.
In the very beginging they edit the ninja chant but later they say it all the way through.
Of course the chant couldnt really heal a fresh wound lol the real ninja had special remedy's for such things.
So i would give the movie 4 out of 5 stars
i dont think it is the greatest ninja movie ever story wise
but action wise it comes pretty close.
Id recommend it, it was alot of fun. If u can put up with the annoying pointless hot chick.
what did u think?
UPDATE:
Ok in my research apprently there was a ninja style they traced and used for the ozuno that was pretty accurate.
the name Ozunu, there was a real Ozunu, who was born in the Kinki District and is the ancestor of the Shugenja, mountain warriors who practiced Shugendo. He's an ancestor of the ninjutsu. So the research was so good.
So while there wasnt a Ozuno ninja Clan there was a ancestor of ninja who is named ozuno that they based the clan off from. If he was descendant from ninja of the kinki area then he would be descendant from one of the Iga Clans. Though if they were Shugenja its very possible they were Koga ninja as they were more common Yamabushi and shugenja.
So anyway the research on the movie was well done.
