I have a Packard Bell computer, but it has died. It says that it is failing during start-up, and I can't find anything that will fix it. I've tried restoring it and everything. I'm using a laptop at the moment by the way. If anyone has any ideas it'd be soo much help.

Laptops are hard to work with.. I have yet to be able to pull one apart without breaking something, but then I have only tried a couple of times. Does it get to actually loading the operating system? or does it show the packard bell screen then die? If it is the first one, then it may be a problem with the hard drive. If it is the second, then it may be motherboard.

Is it automatically restarting once it shows the error? If so it's most likely stuck in a boot loop meaning there's a very good chance the hard drive is having major issues.

This definitely sounds like a hardware issue. I would take it in to a repair shop at this point, there's not much we can do on the forum if there's a problem with the hardware.

The computer is a Packard Bell Imedia J2422, if it helps.

Okay, when I try to get it to repair itself, it tells me that it cannot be repaired automatically.

Ok, that sounds like either a corruption of the OS, or damage to the hard drive. What OS you using? You might need to do more than a restore, you might need to completely reinstall the operating system. If that does not work, Then try replacing the hard drive. Both can be done either at home or by a repair shop, might be cheaper to do it yourself, but will take a bit of time. But if it is getting that far, it does not sound like it is the motehrboard or Bios. I could be wrong, but I have broken computers in about every way I can think of, and usually not on purpose.

Okay, when I try to get it to repair itself,..chkdsk?

What about replacing the CMOS battery and setting BIOS defaults just to be sure?

with responses like that, it sounds like an auto repair tool built into the computer. not as good as a chkdsk or even a full scan wilth attempt to repair damaged sectors checked. My best recomendation would be to pull the hard drive, hook it up to another computer as a secondary drive, and run a full scandisk on it. That will tell you if the drive is corupted, and also let you pull any info you cannot lose off of it if anything can be saved, then you can try to reinstall the OS there. If that doesn't work, the drive is bad and you will probably need to replace it.

Wow, this thread made me realize that I only know about computer SOFTWARE, and when it comes to hardware, I can really only tell if the whole thing has fried... Oh but I can give you some advice for the future and advise you to use external memory for important files.
