View Full Version : FireFox KazeKuroi 06-06-2005, 11:25 PM Okey I took the plung to the web browser by mozilla, anyone else use it? I love it~ Kuraku Hideaki 06-07-2005, 12:38 AM i used to, but it kinds got annoying cause i was getting mixed up with the two, im used to alt+tab'ing ;) KazeKuroi 06-07-2005, 04:48 AM meh, I think I am thowing out I.E. all together. =p Kingsama 06-07-2005, 04:06 PM meh, I think I am thowing out I.E. all together. =p dont uninstall it, it is critical to windows. Just ignore it and make sure that firefox is set as your pirmary browser... Sanctus 06-07-2005, 05:24 PM I switch between the two constantly, don't know why, but firefox seems to be a bit more faster thank I.E., hehe, but thats just me. halberd388 06-07-2005, 06:43 PM Firefox is faster, almost twice as fast acctually. Reason IE is so slow is because it's designed to work with slower machines with slower connections, limiting the amount of streams of data to the browser by 4 as well as forceing you to use it's "ghost" proxy just to connect to a DNS. Firefox goes around the entire "ghost" proxy idea by connecting directly through an ISP proxy (wow, that seems intelligent doesn't it?) as well as increasing the amount of streams of data automaticly depending on your connection speed, however you might see slow down while having multiple browsers/tabs open with streaming data (web/pod casts) If you look in the mozilla website or even the PCMag.com site, you'll find ways to increase the speed of Firefox even more with simple about:config changes. Caution, only make the changes if you are on a 128/128 minimum connection or else your browsing experiance will decrease further. I love Firefox, and with it only having 6% of the world browser share it's somewhat safer to use compared to IE 87% world share. Hackers/Jerks tend to not want to find loopholes in Mozilla products because it's truely freeware, and pirates LOVE free stuff. Firefox has ALL kinds of loopholes in it, but I've never EVER been hit with a redirector/hijacker/brower trojan for 2 years since I've used Mozilla apps... except for the crap I get through IE when I have to download MS Updates. Mustard 06-11-2005, 02:54 PM i prefer not to use it cause it takes a while to load things, and if you don't select the 'import from internet explorer' function, you find yourself downloading shockwave, etc. all over again wasting 2x the space. but it does a decent job blocking popups, it lets nothing through to me. not even the fileplanet activeX download applet. KazeKuroi 06-12-2005, 01:40 AM dont uninstall it, it is critical to windows. Just ignore it and make sure that firefox is set as your pirmary browser... Heh, I am not stupid. =p Kingsama 06-15-2005, 05:25 PM Heh, I am not stupid. =p you would be surprised how many people try to unistall IE...scary... KazeKuroi 06-16-2005, 03:09 AM Amusing Slots 06-21-2005, 01:45 AM you cannot uninstall IE ... my friend did his best to make it stop poping up ... but you cant get rid of it windows willnot allow you to... IE is Windows Explorer it cannot be deleted without getting rid of windows entirely... also .. when you get firefox... dont get mozilla as well.... plus! firefox hsa all those spiffy plugins to hepl it work better since its got lots of customization on thier site alone... i like the tab system and the way that one of hte plugins i got changes the name every window so right now im typing in Mozilla Spaceunicorn... Firefox ftw... wooo... IE sucks ... its gotten better... but its still got a ways to go... Akatsuki 06-21-2005, 02:00 AM Firefox is the win ;) I can't live without tabbed browsing now KazeKuroi 06-21-2005, 04:50 AM I thought you could... Well in XP you can... Just go to add remove programs then to the tab "set program access and defaults" and if you want to remove it go to "add/remove window's components". I dun know maybe I am just wrong... And I don't have my firefox set up to do tabbed browsing. Slots 06-21-2005, 01:31 PM nope cant get rid of IE ... even if you do that it is not deleted.. just open up windows explorer and plug in a url and bam IE is back... its like norton ... it doesnt go away! halberd388 06-21-2005, 10:35 PM I thought you could... Well in XP you can... Just go to add remove programs then to the tab "set program access and defaults" and if you want to remove it go to "add/remove window's components". I dun know maybe I am just wrong... And I don't have my firefox set up to do tabbed browsing. Acctually, your partially right, it can be uninstalled (No, I'm not kidding, it's common place for me to suggest to our Dell customers to "temporarily" uninstall the IE program due to spyware) Explorer, the basis of IE, is part of the acctual UI for Windows. IE is integral to perform updates and some websites do not support Mozilla and Netscape based browsers, so your stuck with IE still. I don't suggest leaving it removed, but you can uninstall SOME of the components of IE from Windows Components menu in Add/Remove Programs, contrary to popular belief this does NOT remove the entire program since the Explorer shell is still present. Feel free to check out the WinXP Documentation on MSTechnet (here) (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/uninstall_ie.mspx) Supposedly with the "Longhorn" version of windows the explorer shell and the web brower will not be one in the same (Gezzous I hope that doesn't get put on the back burner like WinFS) If you have any other technical questions, feel free to PM me, I'm a MCSE;DCSE;A+;Net+ with 9+ years field/server managment and call center experiance under my belt. ShininShado 07-21-2005, 06:45 PM Use Firefox for research, the extra toolbar is really nice for looking up stuff. Trin 07-22-2005, 05:11 PM I've been using Firefox since it was still called Firebird, and I love it. The best thing to do is just make Firefox the default browser. While you'll still have IE installed, it won't interfere with your everyday internet usage. As others have said, you'll still need it to perform Windows update installs, though. That's a minor inconvenience. And I don't have my firefox set up to do tabbed browsing. There's nothing to set up. Just press CTRL+T to open a new tab. You can have as many tabs open at a time as you want. |
