This year seems to be a great year for new game companies.
I'm posting this here because I'm sure my fellow tatsumaki fans enjoy seeing independant developers produce MASTERPIECES out of thin air. (hopefully I'll be able to too within the next decade when I start my game company but that's a different story)
The game releases in fall, and beta/alpha before then. The success it is gaining is something I hope passes to Tatsumaki. But hey, can't complain about me being a fan boy to this game, it's not an MMO like Tats!
-----------------------------------------
Recently Natural Selection 2 has opened preorders - in two styles: basic and special
The Basic allows beta playing and tool access
The special allows beta playing and tool access, alpha testing, and a black marine armor
The special is TWICE the cost of the standard. The standard is 20 USD, the special is a whopping 40 USD.
Over 98 of all preorders have been special. I myself, purchased the special withing 5 minutes of learning of the preorder.
For those who know the game: http://www.naturalselection2.com/
trailer and all
For those who are wondering what the hell I am talking about, let me enlighten you
----------------------------------------------------
Natural Selection is a half life 1 mod that rivaled counter strike in popularity. It was so innovative it redesigned gameplay, the likes of which has never been done. You play as humans or aliens in a strategic FPS battle where you build various structures and take over the map and eventually wipe out the enemy team in an epic battle. The fights are long, grueling, and fun. I once played an 8 hour round, we won when the other team went to bed. The game included aliens that could climb walls, some flew, one would eat a marine and digest him and he could be freed if it died in time. Marines had many guns, all but the basic starter guns had to be supplied by their commander, who played the game RTS style, telling players what to do to and placing structures and weapons to ultimately win the battle. Aliens had no commanderbut had abuilder class and evolved into lifeforms with their own personal resource reserve, while teammates shared resource collection.
This game has rhino like aliens, leaping wall climbing skulk aleins, marines with shotguns, lmg's, grenade launchers, jetpacks, and heavy mechanized armor.
Natural Selection 2 was originally going to use the HL2 source engine, but instead opted for their own hand crafted for ease of use and more features, even going so far as to create a technology that had alien growth growing inside the level to eventually cover it all as alien territory expanded. The game will have epic graphics, a gameplay like never before (you can be a small alien that climbs walls and ceilings, cloaks, waits, bites, ect for god's sake), and the most innovative combat and atmosphere you will ever believe. They used their engine for the trailer, and most likely the end result of the game will look almost identical to the trailer. The game is the oddest combo of fear, action, and fun.
----------------------------------------------
For an example of hysterical fun, as seen in the trailer, the Onos, is a freaking big tough alien of death that can swallow you whole and alive. One of my favorite things to hear in the game, is playing the marines and one of the alien players maxes out their resources and evolves into the onos... when a squad finds the onos "OMG ONOS ****ING ONOS!!!!!"
ahhhhhh, the memories
