So anyone whos been chatting with me lately via Xfire already knows that I am creating a Customizable Trading Card Game based of course on Feudal Japan. I already have over 150 Character templates made in text format and the template graphics are finished, but i havent begun on the actual card images yet. Thats gonna take a Loong time yet to finish lol. Unless i get some volunteer artists who dont mind working for free :)

So Eventually i plan to release the game Online, there will be a free to play option and of course youll be able to buy packs and starter decks and special theme decks with rare cards and such to really create the ultimate deck, tailored to your play style.

The game centers around the protection of your Castle and village (or villages still working this out) and of course attack the opponents castle and village or villages. The system is unique made by myself and is pretty simple to learn.

Each Expansion will cover different periods or will greatly expound on an already released period in Japans violent history. I plan to use every famous Samurai and Warrior that i can find in my research in these expansions.

Eventually I will need some people to help create the program that will actually run the card game online, give you the deck builder, the trade room, and of course the store where you can buy the cards you want to add in addition to the free cards you get. (Im not a programmer in any way lol)

Anyone who helps out will of course get major goodies when the game is finally released

I think it will be a unique thing and for those of us who love feudal japan and card games this will be completely awesome.

So to play test I have found a program called Lackey that lets you play any card game or make your own. Once i get some more cards fleshed out i will begin putting together a team for play testing.

But for now im looking for a good title for the actual game itself.
So i thought hey this could be a fun little contest.

The winner will get a Customized Unique Character Card based on their Tatsu Character name that only they will be able to use in the play testing and later in the actual release of the game :)

I have been trying to come up with a great name but every single name I think of, i check google and sure enough some one has already made a game with the same name, be it video, card or board game lol

So lets hear some ideas Can you come up with a sweet name for the Samurai CCG?

Also stay tuned I will release some sneak peaks of Card templates and some of the Card texts as I continue to finish cards.

The premier edition will be huge so yea gonna take alot of work lol

yea didnt like any of those not to mention all the ones i thought of that have already been taken like

I play Yugioh with a passion, and even have a Samurai deck.

I have ideas, having made my own card game before...



I would highly suggest having armor, weapons, and items.

Have the character card, along with a sheet giving their armor, their weapons, and their items.

Just an idea for customizeability.

Talk to Asuka about helping you with art, and I might, aswell.

I could draw items and weapons, aswell as armor.

And I could invent new parts to the system!

Shinob yes there will be item cards weapon cards armor cards lol I guess i thought that went without saying. Ive played so many ccg's that im just used to those as a given. There will also be Tactic Cards which will enhance your chances of winning battles and Duels, then there will be what I call Scroll Cards which play to the table and have rule changing effects that can effect say all your samurai or all opponents ninja. so in some ways its a traditional CCG just with a unique play system ive created

There are also different classes of Characters including
Samurai
Ninja
Nobles
Monks
Non Samura (which inlcudes Merchants Kokukin ect)

So its well thought out and ill be happy to have you both draw some pics for the game :) Im keeping the actual game texts and such to my own little control right now but as the game expands and grows i may need some ppl to assist with it. As far as a Tenma Card well Win the contest and youll get the card :D

There will be other contests as well but for now the current contest is

Also just a little update in case your all curious the Premier will be mainly based in the Sengoku Jidai on about 1550-1560 I do have many other expansions planned such as the Onin War, The Battle Of Sekigahara, and more specific expansions like Shadows of Chaos (the ninja based expansion) Rise of the Demon King (more of an Oda Based Expansion) Tiger of Kai (more takeda based) ect i already have plenty of expansions planned out so this game when it finally takes off can go on for many many years to come :)

There should be a bit more of a supernatural aspect to this game. XD Nobody wants to have a game with normal stuff in it, really.

But you DID mention magical scrolls, so we are getting somewhere.

Also, have special weapons, like an Engraved Teppo, or Nodachi of the Autumn Leaves, etc.




EDIT: I have a name idea. The game seems based on combat, and defensive aswell as offensive strategies. So I got Japanese words, and put them together, fused them, to make this name.

I'd max the game out with weapons, armor, and items. The more you have, the more the player will feel creative and unique when they play.

Like, as an example, in Yugioh, I am known for getting an old, out of date, weak, never seen the light of day kind of card, and making it compete with a Metagame deck.

In other words, I am the guy with Uber-Peasants. :D

There will be no magic or supernatural at least not in the initial premier and expansions, this is to be as accurate as i can get it much like Tatsumaki and i think that most players who are into japanese samurai especially historicaly accurate characters will love this for that very reason, see theres far too many games out there that claim to have samurai elements but pollute it with magic and over powered unrealistic weapons armor and pokemon lol The scroll cards arent magic but are basically effect cards. I will include certain items of legend and they of course will be powerful cards but ill empasize that it is of myth rumor legend or story, Like the old Willow Tree in the Take of Genji. Its a tree that represents immortality and Long life and is mentioned in old Japanese Poems. So for example that card would be a scroll and give a character that you place it on a great boost to either healing or their base Life.

There will be plenty of weapons and armor and such. So when all is said and done this game will not in anyway need a supernatural side to draw in players and i think it will be far better because we are not watering it down with Magic swords and evil Goblins. Like i said theres already plenty of games out there like that :P
time for something different

as far as the name it seems just a little too long for what im lookin for but keep coming up with ideas theres no limit to how many names you can enter :) the contest is for fun but ultimitaly we want the game to be the best it can be that means best name, best game play, ect

I mean, you have names like Daimyo Wars, or Bushido Battles, which are both two words.

And I make something like SenyobiSakubou, which is meant to be said fast.

I can't get something shorter, or more to the point than "Combat and Strategy"

dont be discouraged its just not the right name for the game :P like i said keep brain storming you got time. two words isnt a problem as they are short names the name in japanese is frankly just to confusing and not identifiable enough. In English its just not right either, doesnt really have the right feel im looking for. Most named tend to come from a maker or one main character, like my Munisai manga or Yugioh however this doesnt follow one character or even one time period so sengoku wouldnt have worked anyway. But yea just keep throwing ideas in, i wont make a final decision on what i want till i get back from the east coast anyway. Combat and strategy seems to me to sound more like a civil war game or even a world war game.

Ok so heres a little preview of a character Template.

This is a Monk Template which is represented by the Green as well as the Attribute Monk in the fan area. He is also a Daimyo again represented by the Daimyo attribute in the Fan. The number five on the gold coin is the cost of the character. (Thats an actual piece of gold known as Ryo) On the top left we see the Clan Mon of the Tsutsui, nearly every character will bear their actual Mon or the Mon of the Army they serve. So some will show Tokugawa Mon in different versions of the character. Notice the yellow ring around the mon. This tells us which period this card is from. The yellowish ring here will represent the Sengoku Jidai putting us just after the Muramachi period and just before the Edo period. Almost all Characters have a subtitle this helps us to see the different versions of a character. The red circle represents the characters Life or HP the Green bead is the Characters Personal Defense. The Blue Bead is their Attack, and the Yellow Bead at the bottom is the Damage they inflict.
You notice the number of the card at the bottom right showing us the rarity of the card and of course what number it is.
Theres a lore section towards the bottom where i write in a little bit of info about who this character was. And of course the game text which really gives the characters their use and makes it easy to see who u want to use.

So this is just a little preview of one of the Various Daimyo you can play. Youll only be allowed one Daimyo so there will be interesting options and plenty of daimyo to choose from.

The only suggestion I would have for the template is to try and make the image box a bit bigger.

Besides that, I LOVE it!!!


I cannot wait to get to work...

You plan on having black and white images, or color, or both?

I could do inking for the character images if they are black and white. :D

Id like Color for this game. U can still ink them ya know lol color isnt hard to place in an inked pic. And all forms of art are fine, so some could be manga some realism some cartoonish some anime and some comic style, thats really artist preference though even if its cartoon style id like the pics to be realistic and accurate. The image box is going to remain that size, dont wanna sacrifice game play text just to see a characters feet and alot of the images will be head shots anyway they are easier and stand out a little more then full body shots. Torso busts will also be done alot.
While black and white would be easier and faster for the game i dont think it would feel right playing a game where the template is full vivid color and the image isnt. So like i said theres alot of work yet to do. This IS the final Template ive already been thru hundreds of drafts and choices and finally decided i liked this the best. Its simple its not too busy, it wont take away from the characters images, everything is in an easy to read position, and it looks very Samurai like. Ill post more images soon maybe ill do a ninja next time ;)

lol ok like i said this is more a historical based card game not munchkin samurai with mnkey kung fu :P Divine Conquest im liking also Vangaurd of steel has a nice ring, like i said not making any decisions till i get back from east coast so keep em coming

and yea the Shimazu Clan will indeed be in the premier as well as have a theme deck and possibly an expansion centered around them. They are actually the next big clan im researching as i just finished the Uesugi.

lords of chaos is a game already taken and it is however already an expansion i have in mind. Daimyo wars i already thought of but didnt like lol reworded Dynasty of blood is something im liking :) too bad ya dont like ccg's Nk gonna be a ton of fun :)

np well get someone to color or ill do it but feel free to start drawing, do me an inked katana and ill see if it fits, well have to get a good scale size cuz remember when the image gets shrinked down to the box it will be smaller and may not show the lines properly so be sure to check any drawings u do against the size of this image box.

Well, let me think fo some things. The thing is, doing a Katana Blade is extremely hard, because I do not have a working scanner, so I have to photoshop a katana.

And I don't wanna use another persons image.

Any suggestions as to how to get this done?

I suppose being an artist for it will be hard without a scanner, now that I think about it.

I could ink your images, if you did any, and then pass them to a colorist.

I think I would be an Inker/Card Creator/Text Writer.

Those things I can do for sure.

I LOVE creating cards, I do it all the time with Yugioh. I write the effects, create the cards, text them, etc.

If you wanted me to be your Inker/Text Writer/Creator, I could do all of that. :)

draw the pics and ink them by hand, you can even practice coloring with markers or colored pencil if u like on the side, then after a pic is done take it to staples, or office max, and they usualy have a scanner you can use, costs like 25 cents or so for a pic not to expensive just change, other option is to get a scanner for 50-100 bucks or use a friends :)

yes indeed the Arquebus guns will be weapons though they will be very rare and expensive to deploy. list of items ok heres some weapons
we will need
several variations of a Katana for the first expansion, some will be unique some will be signed weapons. So draw as many as you can.

The same applies to the Okatana
the Nodachi
the Ogatana
the Wakazashi
the Daisho
Spears
Halberds
Nodachi
Naganita
Nagamaki
Bo Staff.

We will need maybe one or two drawings of
a Sai
Pair of Sai
Jitte or Jutte (same thing just two ways to spell it)
Tanto
Dagger
Throwing Star

I think that will be enough weapons for the first expansion.
Always draw several variations of the same pic so we have choices to choose the best, and of course we can always have extra for other variations of the item.

So that should keep you very very busy. You have my email and almost 2 months before ill be back to see your work so get working. with a game like this we will need all the pics we can get :)

I'll probably end up making a bunch of pics and doing one trip to Staples.

Also, may I suggest making a Medal/Accomplishment/Trophy system for our characters to show our battles won?

And I think, personally, that anyone who actually helps you on this game should get a character card. Just because, besides testing, what do creators get?

ppl who help will get goodies i havent yet decided on what it may very well be a character card well see. :) No rush to decide anything yet but i wouldnt let anyone who helped in such a capacity not be rewarded in some very very cool way
If asuke wants to draw she can get started on head shots and busts (a pic of the mid torso and head) of characters, eventually ill have descriptions but theres literally hundreds of characters to draw so we will need many many cool pics.

Yes, and do you ever plan on printing these cards and putting them into booster packs randomly, or just keeping them online?

And anotehr question, how do you plan to randomize cards for booster packs?

ideally the plan is to just release it online if i can get the funding for print then ill do print but for now the plan is just online. and the randomization for packs will be done thru a program that will randomize packs for purchase which ill either have to hire someone to create or ill license. A pack will most likely hold 9 cards 1 rare, 3 uncommon, 4 common cards this may change but thats the idea. The free to play option would be that anyone who creates a game account will get at the start of the account 1 starter deck and 5 free packs. then every month they get another 5 free packs of the current expansion. Anything more theyd have to purchase. So its feesable that someone could easily play for free but theyd have a limited amount of cards against someone who say purchased booster packs, theme decks, tournament decks, and even whole expansion box sets.
As for tournaments i will indeed have a player ranking system to show whos on top as well as exclusive rewards for tournament winners such as customized character, weapon or armor cards. Also there will be promo cards given to current accounts. So theres alot of cool stuff to get, im a huge fan of giving players lots of rewards. So when the game is officially released expect alot of cool things.

Yes Shinobi real money lol were a long way off from that point yet perhaps a year or two. But eventually when the game is in full release it will be a real official Online CCG. Much in the same spirit that Tatsumaki has started and will be finished. And much the same way like i stated previously it will have a free to play option which i dont believe any or many other online card games offer. Far as i know aside from the user/fan created game tables and scanned cards like magic and the old star wars ccg this will be a full working game. Free to play option and if you really wanna get all the cards and have the best decks well just like any other real card game you purchase booster packs. But like i said one of the unique things is that we give you cards every month. So you could just sign up and never spend a penny if you dont want to.
Like i said i will need programmers to help create the game table, trading area, deck builder, store, and pack generator. So anyone who is willing to help let me know cuz im not a programmer. lol Worse case scenario i have to take out a loan and buy a program.

@ moses lol i think most of those names are already games :P but some do sound good.
Actually i dont think the Art of War is taken yet. Im seeing it mixed with other names like expansions but that is a really good and fitting title. Better up the ante guys thats a really good yet obvious title. But like i said im not making any final choices till i get back who knows maybe we will get some even better names.

Did this card last night, well tonight for me last night for those reading this most likely lol did it when i couldnt sleep. Blasted inspiration keeps me awake for days workin on stuff some times. Anyway im very excited about the accuracy im doing on the weapons. Im tryin my best to make sure the rare weapons were in fact actual historical weapons signed and dated by the famous sword smiths of history. I did a few last night er tonight er just now ah screw it lol Anyway yea so they came out really well text wise, and it even helped me sorta create a whole new game mechanic which i had in mind but wasnt fully sure how i should execute it. Still working on it but now at least i have a very good idea how it shall work. That mechanic is Duels. Of course the game will have your grand scale battles but what if you want your favorite characters your heroes or generals or such to have one on one duels against your opponents favorite heroes. Well that is where the duel mechanic will come into play. Not sure how im going to have the duels initiated. Either a special rule or by a special card or perhaps both. But the idea is you can duel a character at the same location, You "Challenge" the opponents character you wish to duel, pay whatever the cost i decide is to initiate the duel. Then a new mechanic comes into play that being speed. Ill set a base speed for characters which some will have certain game text that makes them faster and thus better at duels (like Sasaki Kojiro) some will be stronger at duels (like Miyamoto Musashi) just for a couple of examples. And no they wont be in the premier of the game. But they will be in a very very cool an special expansion i have planned dedicated completely to the musashi storyline (the book by Yoshikawa). So in the duel youd get initiative by speed meaning the first hit, then the opponent would get to hit back if he isnt dead (either by having enough Life (hp) to survive the hit, or high enough defense) if both still are standing the duel would continue till one finally dies. There will be Tactic cards of course to enhance and help you win duels. But dont forget balance. If your playing an army, youl want to have the right amount of tactic cards to enhance your armies battles as well as solo duels. The duel mechanic also opens up something i want as far as making it so maybe 2 players dont want to play massive armies vs armies defending and attacking castles. This mechanic opens up a whole new game play style with a different set of rules. that being hey im going to have a few or even one character and dedicate the entire deck to enhancing them and winning duels. This can make for shorter games on a more one on one level. So it will open up lots more possibilities and lots more fun.

heh wait till i create the Bounty Hunting and Yojimbo Mechanics ;)

Duels are cool sounding...

I would love for a general of mine to do a duel!

Like I said, consider putting in medals, ranks, etc. Specific ranks for the more people or armies you defeat/kill in a duel.

The reason for this is so peoples general's will be feared even more when they are highly decorated in rank.

I wanna have a theme deck, revolving around the smaller samurai helping the bigger samurai.

Or something of the sort.... And... We can make our decks as we please, correct?

I would like it if abilities may work with other specific cards. Like...


Akuto: "This warrior is Damage +4 when Akuto Retainer is on the battlefield. This warrior cannot be called to battle unless Akuto Retainer is in your hand at the time."

Akuto Retainer: "This warrior is Defense -2 when Akuto is not on the battlefield. If Akuto is attacked and killed, this warrior can take the damage instead."


Something like that... :D Though the Akuto would be useless without his retainer, and vise versa, that is the general idea. Decks that revolve around flexibility would be great, too.


EDIT: And also, a solution to a long effect of a card is to simply reduce the size of the text.

Players will have ranks but it will just be a system to show whos in what position for tournaments, the only player bonus they get is winning tournament cards. Character cards have ranks and a character will have many different versions of himself. So take Tokugawa Ieyasu for example. He starts out on his first card a hostage, then becomes a general of the Imagawa, then becomes a Daimyo, then eventually the Shogun. Thats just a few of the ranks he will hold but you get the idea. remember this isnt a rollplaying game. Its a CCG. To have a player with the ability to raise stats just by winning games on their cards they would eventually become to powerful to beat. The reward they get is special cards and of course the tank title and being the best of the best. A free to play player should have just as much chance of winning a game based on skill as say the legendary general player whos dominating the tournaments. If that free to play player has better skill and luck who knows he may take the title. And yes I know how to write effects and game text lol ive been doing it for 17 years for fun. So rest assured the game will be cool. And thats also what play testing is for. to tweak the text on the cards making them play better and preventing too many overpowered or unbeatable cards. (But we do gotta have a few very powerful cads) of course those would be ultra rare. Yes the whole point of a customizable card game is that you create your own deck customizing it to your own play style. When you say smaller samurai im not sure what you mean. There are Generals, there are captains, heroes, Retainers, Troopers. The Troopers would be small as most are non-unique and are your common variety soldiers. The unique cards tend to be more powerful and you could make a deck without non-unique characters if you want but its more expensive to deploy them.

Make sure to spell check your cards, just sayin but it lessens the appearance if things are misspelled on a card.

As for Art of War there are already several flash and other games with the title, not to dampen Moses' chances or anything, just sayin its kinda unoriginal.

As for the upgradable cards, you could do something like Poxnora did. As their ability rises so does their cost to deploy.

May I also suggest a kingdom vs. battlefield mechanic? each player chooses their army to send out each turn to fight, battle happens, and then they return. Should an army be beaten terribly or should one player decide not to send out an army, then it would be a siege where the player's kingdom itself could be harmed instead of just troops. Naturally castles would only come into play during sieges.

EDIT: Oh, and I'd recommend not making custom cards very common handouts, they could easily unbalance the game quite a bit for specific players if they were commonly handed out. Just give them the game's currency or some card instead.

They wont be common hand outs and they wont be over powered either. The custom cards that is. Im doing spell checks as best i can. Inevitably things will slip by but im hoping all typos will be caught during play testing. As far as the battlefield mechanic your mentioned youll have to see how the actual game play works. The idea is you have your Castle site and a lets call it border site. The border site can be a village or a town or city or forest, or field or mountain. You can deploy characters only to your castle and your village. The goal is to #1 defend your castle, #2 defend your border site, cuz if the opponent gets past your border site they can siege the castle. #3 attack the opponents Border Site, cuz until you take control of the Border site you cant go after the castle. #4 Siege the castle once an opponents Castle falls you win the game. Im still working on mechanics and rules and bugs so for now thats the general idea. The battles kinda ongoing. Oh and the only characters who can sneak into the opponents Castle to cause Damage are Ninja (unless a Character has specific game text) So its wont be like hey i can just leave my Daimyo safe in the castle and send all my forces to protect my border and invade the opponents border. You do that, if the opponent wants they can move some Ninja into the Castle and kill the Daimyo and possibly take over your castle. End of Game. Originally i was going to have another Site which would be a Generic BattleField but that would only really work if the game was a 2 player game. The games designed so it can have multiplayers. So i had to lesson the number of Locations. I am pretty confident that the mechanic will work well. And like i said thats all what play testing is for. Also im very against cards that can be upgraded by a players ranking, like i said i dont believe its fair to new players or to free to play players. I dont want to exclude players just cuz their new or dont have alot of money. Like i said theres more then enough rewards in special cards that ranking players can get.

Apologies for the jpg distortion dont worry im saving them in the highest res i can and they will most likely use Giff format or PNG for the game. This is a little preview of a Samurai Template. And we get to see a young Tokugawa Ieyasu, now here you see the number inside the fan. This means the Character is known by multiple names. No the number doesnt mean thats how many names he has used. It means you can look up that number on a name chart to see other names the character goes by. This prevents someone from getting confused and playing Matsudaira Motoyasu and Tokugawa Ieyasu at the same time thinking their two different characters. Samurai are designated by the Red Template. Revenue is how much Ryo your Characters, Castle, and any other Bonuses generate each of your turns so you can spend that money on deploying characters, items, weapons, using scrolls and tactics. Ill give you this ronin and shinob, possibly in a future expansion if there enough demand and i have enough money i will enable a mechanic that will allow leveling a Character. But for the premier its definitely not feesable and im guessing the programing on it would be difficult and costly.

I said that everyone gets 5 free packs a month. It allows for the free to play option to work. The free packs will be only of the CURRENT set. So at first it will be of the Premier until i release the first expansion. Then players will start getting 5 free packs a month from the new Expansion. if they want to get more premier packs they can always go back and buy packs. Creators will get a higher amount but i have not yet decided on any final details. Also players will get 1 free starter deck for each current set as well. Shinobi i think when i say you, you are taking it out of context that im meaning you yourself. On a board when i say you it generally means everyone unless im specifically directing a reply or statement to you shinobi lol so be careful about misquoting me. But dont stop asking questions. And also remember things are very early in the planning stages. Were a long ways off till its officially released. Though were not as far from play testing. Thats just a matter of when i have the premier set text templates all finished. By finished i mean every card is written and numbered. There will also be a bonus for play testers who help me out as well. Im trying to be careful on making any promises on who will get what yet as were still so early in development. But im a big fan of rewarding players, pay testers, and anyone who helps out in anyway. And that is just one version of Ieyasu btw. Some of the cards you may see previewed on here may not actually be in the premier or the text may change. Depends on what other version i make and if that version fits with the time line im planning for the release of the premier. The premier will generally be set at about 1550-1560.
The time where the Uesugi are clashing with the Takeda. The Nanbo are clashing with the date in the North. The Shimazu and tachibana are battling over Kyushu. Ieyasu is just breaking away from Imagawa who is making their attempt to move on the capitol but being blocked by the Oda. The Tsutsui and the miyoshi are having a bloody battle for Yamato and various other daimyo each are waiting for their chances to make a move for power. You wont be limited to say just playing the members of the takeda or oda. You can mix and match but im only allowing you one Daimyo. But there will be benefits to playing members of the same clan. Many of your stats will get strong bonuses for keeping your clan purely say Oda. But there will be some bonuses to a mix match clan too. You can take the best of each Clan and make one all star Clan. So again i stress its completely customizable.

Btw heres a Noble's Template. The templates are all pretty much generic with a different color to distinguish and represent a character type. Like i said i was literally working on temps for months and had hundreds of variations with snake and tiger skins backgrounds to marble textures to flower designs to bamboo and wood looks. In the end i finally realized that the template i liked the best was the simplistic look. Just felt right. So the gold represents a Noble i mean what other color could except for perhaps white lol Also he i sporting the Mon crest of the Ashikaga Shogunate. There was a few different mons for the Ashikaga i chose this one to best represent the Muramachi Shogunate, as the other crest was too similar if not the same as the Minamoto crest.(the first Shoguns)

About my names, honestly I have never heard of a game named after any of those (except land at war ofcourse :P). A few were books I have read, others where just eras, meanings of words etc. Go with whatever you want I just thought Id throw out a few I thought would work.

Well see in the future, likely ill make it a contest or something but for now the help i need is art and any programmers who can volunteer to help make the gaming program. I will be away for a month so the game will be on hold for a bit but when i get back ill pick it up again and it shouldnt be long after that we can start using the lackey program to play test.

So keep sending name ideas everyone cuz i havent decided on a name yet. And maybe youll win that custom card. Also feel free to talk about the game what you want to see ect.

nothing is in stone but like i said, custom character cards, are done in a way that doesnt make the card over powered, I roll several dice and then the player gets to choose the what numbers go to what stats, so they do get to customize their card, and choose their name as long as its approved by me. Like no iamdabomb lol I choose all game text, history lore can be written by them. Creators will get a custom card depending on their amount of help, if they just submit one pic well thats not worth a custom card lol. For those not in a postion to create or draw, well thats what contests and possibly winning tournaments are for, though winning tournaments wont always be for customs. customs will most likely be a very very rare thing. Like a once or twice a year tournament chance. Tournys will be usualy for special tournament onyly cards and yea for extra packs.

But everyone keep the submissions for the names coming, like i said ill choose a final name for the game when i return from the east cost.

To those who are new im having a contest to choose the name of the Samurai based card game. It greatly depends on if i see something i like. If not and i choose something else, i may just give a runner up prize to the name i liked the most. :)

Hey im back and have been working hella hard on getting enough cards ready for play testing. I think i have more then enough character cards now, im doing sites and scrolls and tactics now. We should be good on weapons and items. So be patient and soon ill be looking for play testers.

As for the name of the game contest. It seems to have died down a bit. I guess thats ok I believe I have a great name though i woulda been very happy if someone came up with a better one. But ill have other contests.

Ok so, I am very very close to starting the play testing of the game. The system im using should allow up to 10 players at a time, this means major fun and major battles.

So I have decided on the name.

EMPIRES OF THE RISING SUN

I thank everyone for their guesses, and what ill do is award the best guess i liked the most, so ill go thru the posts again and announce the winner and their prize.

Everyone who helps in the playtesting will receive a custom Character card based on their Tatsumaki Character. :)

I am just about finished with the cards, so now i need to proof read them, number them correctly, and begin loading them into the engine. I will be using the lackey game system, if anyone is familiar with it and wants to help id be very grateful.

So everyone who wants to be a playtester should start signing up now, by signing up i mean post that you would like to play test. then once i have all the cards loaded and the system working we can begin.

Playtesters will play the game, and let me know their thoughts, opinions, alert me to over powered cards, under powered cards, ect, any glitches in game play, any bugs in the system.

Keep in mind I have the final say of what is changed and what stays.

At the middle of the 14th century the Land of rising sun is in a state of permanent civil war. The Ashikaga Shogunate stands on the brink of destruction as the Miyoshi invade Yamato and plot against the Ashikaga clan. The Takeda use their fierce Cavalry against the zealot Uesugi. Meanwhile Imagawa using the Matsudaira (Tokugawa) clan as their pawns decide the time is ripe to make their move on the capitol. But first they must carve a path through the seemingly small Oda clan who have been kept in check thus far by the rich and powerful Saito Clan of Mino.

The Nagano divided on two fronts attempts to keep there clan from falling to the chaos. Ronin flourish in the streets looking to serve any master who will give them fame and fortune while the Monks of the Honganji work the peasants into a rebel force against both the shogun and the Daimyo.

During all of this chaos the Dark Hojo watch from the walls of their impenetrable fortress in Odawara waiting to see which of these Clans shall weaken and thus become food for the Hojo to scavenge upon...

So this is the description of the time period and the clans who shall be in the premier, i was originally going to put like every clan of that time in but decided to focus on the major clans for now and do the lesser clans later. There are 10 Clans so everyone will be able to make a couple of decks and have a Clan they can play. Play one on one or play with a few ppl or heck lets have a tournament or just an all out battle with 10 players at once.

I just finished the sites. characters, weapons, items, and most of the scrolls and tactics are done now, just need to proof read, adjust some stuff and begin scans.

Be sure to post here if you want to be in the play testing.

Ok after testing some stuff and resizing it for the engine heres what i got, i think im gonna do a base card type for now for each type, so all noble temps will have the same image, samurai temps same image ect. BUT later i may change this. and i think im gonna mix both black and white and color cards, depending on how the image looks. So here is some previews. Yea im goin lazy a lil and using images from my manga but hey i drew em so im allowed :P

The Ninja temp pic is a new one well at least its a painted version so thats new, and yea most of this im showing are from the Ashikaga clan as there the first ones im adding

Also i need someone to help me figure out the Lackey game engine ill be using for the ccg. So if theres someone who is good at reading tutorials and learning things from written word let me know. :)

Ok so after more tireless work and having the help of Zekeen on coloring i have decided to make each card have an individual picture. So what ill do is try and release some new images as often as we can. Heres the first set. Your might be wondering why i changed the Fuma Kotaro image. Well theres going to be two versions of Kotaro. This is the strongest one.

Please keep in mind that the numbers of the cards are sbject to change lol that is the number of the card not the stats, those are pretty much finished.

One suggestion: I really like the pattern you have underneath the main text, and the subtitle -- however, it looks a little busy -- how does it look if you fade it more, so the text is a bit easier to read? Does it ruin the pattern? Just a thought.

By game standards, I think Nobunaga the Heretic Lord could seriously mess an opponent up. If you can find a way to fuel his power and keep him fighting, and maintain a defence, that could mess someone up. Hand control matters alot...

I would not mind having a card with a similar effect.

Ok coudlnt sleep dspite how tired i am so im working on the ccg since im burned out from the rpg.

The Official Title is now

The Lords of the Rising Sun

I came up with some what i think are final designs and stats for some characters. I finally have a system im using to assign point values.

1 Common 3-4
2 Ashigaru 5-6
3 Officer 7-8
4 General 9-10
5 Daimyo 11-12
6 Master 13-15

Ronin Class Randomized.

Simple the first number is the cost of that class. The name is the class type. The second and third numbers are the minimum and max stats i can spend in that class. So each class has a basic set power base. This way the characters wont be over powered and impossible to beat.

ronin class will be randomized. This is cuz some ronin sucked some ronin kickd butt some where masters. So the Ronin and brigand id say also are the odd cards.

The game abilities are still up to my discretion and some may need balancing. But otherwise these are what the cards will look like.

Note that I am giving each of the factions a different look, background and all. Soon ill post the anatomy of the cards to better help you understand what they mean and how they will be played.

I am still looking for artists who will work on the game with me.

ALSO I am keeping the images black and white. This will make it alot easier for me to draw images or reuse images from my manga lol hey it works. It also gives it a classic old samurai movie feel.

Im gonna try to release a new finished card everyday or at least every week.

So heres the first card.

Yoshiteru Ashikaga the Warrior Shogun.

Yoshiteru got the max 12 spent on em as he was a renowned sword fighter. I made him completely balanced.Most Characters focus on a special stat. the red stat is the characters vitality or hp. The Blue stat is the characters attack. The Green Stat is the characters defense.

Youll wanna make sure your characters have weapons for damage as well.

Note the big name Daimyo will be rare :P

Nobunaga has great attack, average vitality but low defense. Hes all about attack. he even gives his faction members att +1. The real thing that makes Nobunaga strong is his ability to pull weapons from the deck for a little coin.

He gives good revenue so u get good money when hes sitting in his castle.
But your Hojo characters all get dmg +1 when he ventures out to war.
Hes got good vitality and good defense.

Ok heres the next card.

Matsudaira Motoyasu Lord of Mikawa who eventually becomes Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Lemme explain the anatomy of the cards now.

first the crests

th crest on the left is the Clan or faction crest. This is who they serve, who they are affiliated with. The Crest on the right is the family they belong to.
These crests may differ and often will. In the case of most of the daimyo, the crest is the same cuz its their Clan, their family, their faction. But as we know, many familys served other clans.

Next is the name. Motoyasu Matsudaira.

This obviously tells us who the person is. Theres a persona rule so only one version of a unique character may be in play at any given time. Even if they character has a different name. This can usually be identified in the game text. Ill also release a list of same persona different name characters upon release.

Next is the subtitle. Lord of Mikawa. This identifies who this character was at this time in their life.

To left left you see the fighting style this character specialized in. I have done immense research on these and yes i know some of them specialized in various styles and other cards may reflect that. But for now i choose the style each one would most likely has used at this time in thier lives. Ive treid my best to make sure its all accurate, but if u see a style they didnt use or dont see one they did lemme know, ill look over my research compare yours and see if it needs to be changed.
So for Motoyasu he used OKUYAMA RYU.

NOTe: his son Hidetada was the one who studied the Yagyu Shinkage ryu and the Ono ryu under Yagyu Munenori and Ono Tadakki.

Next the card type identifier, Unique/character

Unique tells us if only one of this card can be in play at any given time.
Character tells us he isnt a horse, he isnt a item, he isnt a tactic ect ect.

The gold Ryo coin with the number is how much it cost to play this card.
In Motoyasus case its 5 Ryo to play him.

Next is the skill tessen fan lol. Inside the fan he is identified more clearly as to what he is and what level he is. Motoyasu is a Daimyo (Lord of a clan) and he is a Samurai (Warrior class Bushi)
This helps us when tactics (attack and defense card) Character abilities (abiltiies that target the classes, skills, or levels) and Scrolls (Effect or event cards) target these classes skills or levels.

To the right under the fan is the card number. The first letter is the set release. So this set is the first so number is 1.

The second is a letter telling us the rarity of the card. The first set of daimyo im doing are the rare high end daimyo so he is a rare.

the 3 numbers after this are well the card number. easy right lol

lets swing way over to the left of the card, the three beed bubbles going down, red green then blue. These are the Characters stats.

The first red beed stat is Vitality. This is how many wounds a character can take before they die. Characters with low vitality should either wear armor, or be protected inside your castle unless they have good defense.

The second green beed stat is attack. This measures the fighting prowess of the characters attack capability. Important for when u battle on yur turn.

The third blue beed stat is the characters defense. This is important for battles u fight on an opponents turn.

Im still working how dmg will work but right now im thinking u need a weapon on a character to inflict dmg unless that character is dmg +1. But well see what i do during playtesting.

Now we come to the Game Ability. This is the text which describes the powers of this character. Im gonna go into more details about this another time but anyone who plays ccgs knows what game abilitie text if for.

Under the ability text is the lore text.

Lore text, is for flavor and tells u who this person was, also helps identify same personas.

The background of each Faction is different. I wanted it to be more unique and add more characterization to the clans characters and game. So this faction is the pretty ocean blue like color since Mikawa was a port city and ieyasu did favor blue colorings on his men. Also black for some reason but im using black for hojo lol.

Im tryin to be original in the designs, some im reusing old pics to speed things up but only if they look appropriate, this is how id see motoyasu at this point so. Other pics im redrawing manipulating or just making new pics completely.

Thanx Shino, weapon cards come later, Im doing the major diamyo right now, There are 9 starting factions.
Ashikaga, Hojo, Imagawa, Miyoshi, Oda, Saito, Takeda, Tokugawa and Uesugi.

So we got Takeda, Saito, Imagawa and Uesugi left to show.

I was considering other major clans like the Date and the Ikko factions. Well see how much room i have left after the 9 main. Most likely other clans will be later expansions.

Im doing the classes in order, so i sarted with daimyo, im not working on Ninja Masters, then Kenjutsu Masters, then most likely ill do Generals, then officers, then ashikaga, then merchant and peasant classes and Non-unique soldiers.

So as promised heres todays card.

Miyoshi Nagayoshi Lord of Ambition.

I love this design for the Miyoshi almost as my design for the hojo and Oda.

The miyoshi are the faction that will start with the Yagyu :) in later expansions the yagyu start serving different lords, i think the next one is Oda. Then Ashikaga, Then Toyotomi i think then Tokugawa. So my por yagyu will be spread around for a bit as they were historically untill Yagyu Munenori came into power. And dont worry im not overpowering, im using a balance system for classes that keeps them about the same as anyone in their class. Their game ability might be better then others in their class though, but they would be focused on Combat anyway so they are just tanks at the best.

So Nagayoshi miyoshi is a good card.
average vitality and defense, great attack, Normal major daimyo money generation from his revenue. Hiscool thing is he can block one of your enemies cash flow.

A nice thing when they are already hurtin for cash to pay for their cards.

Since Imagawa is the feminent noble type i decided to release two cards lol

Imagawa Yoshimoto Viceroy of Saura

Nagao Kagetora Lord of the War (Uesugui Kenshin)

BTw i saw the typo on yoshimto and fixed it just now, its -1 to deploy imagawa faction characters, might change later but thats it for now.

Uesugi Kenshin or as he was known at this time, Nagao Kagetora is card im proud of. I came up with an interesting design look for him,
Hes got great tactics cost reduction and the sucker is dmg +3, usually only samurai masters r extra dmg like that. hes got no defense but crazy high att and vitality. The fighting style i could only find references to amakakeru ryu. If anyone knows differently let me know.

Ok heres the next card. Saito Dosan the serpent of mino.

He is a good card, good daimyo, he gives u nice money generation and also give u the ability to pull non unique items from your deck into your hand.
Hes a merchant so any cards that gives bonuses to merchants effect him. All in all if your looking for maximum management and control of your money and items this faction will be the one u want.

Todays card takeda shingen.

Before he took the name shingen he was takeda harunobu, Lord of KAI.

Shingen is our 9th and final major daimyo for the 9 factions of this release.

While shingen sits in his castle he is able to cause your horses to deploy cheaper.

he also has the ability to pull horses from the deck, so shingen is just a massive horse power house card. But this is appropriate because the takeda were known for their famous cavalry.

hes got high attack and defense but he cant take much damage without wearing some good armor.

Im starting to think no ones interested so if i dont get some responces i may stop workin on the game :P

Not giving up lol just playin:P i love making the cards and im just as excited to play as everyone else. Well its been a process, the original design took maybe an hour for the template, the template was simple and generic so from their it was just however long it took to research a character and assign em powers.

On the side i continued to always revise the template cuz deep down i wanted something more professional looking, im rarely happy with the end result. The new one took maybe 3 hours to make, took time to create and find the elements used and inspired to make one base template. That was the ashikaga temp.

From their i decided i needed to use my own artwork to keep license and also to truly make it unique. But to make it work i decided to go with the black and white images, while color is cool it takes three time the time to finish and makes me feel overwhelmed. (Like i never do witht he 500 projects i do, just ask zekeen lol)

so each different background took maybe 1/2 to finish. Once i had a base it went fast, the things that take longest is researching and most are preresearched. so now that all th bases are done it takes me maybe 5-30 mins a card. Then like 5-15 mins to draw a pic and insert it. IM being creative with my gallery of work and redrawing some already done pics making em look different. Lets see if anyones clever enough to see who lol.

So its not that it takes long to make another, im already on card 25 of finished designs. Im till releasing them slowly though. this way if i get behind u guys still get cards.

So without further delay here is

Fuma Kotaro Dog of the Hojo
(and our first ninja master of the 9 ninja master lords)

Kotaro is well a beast. He is extremely difficult to kill unless u can hit em with very high dmg in one shot, ruin the hojos money supply, or cancel his game text. likely it will need a combination of the three.

HE just keeps retuning for more punishments. He also has a high attack so that makes em even more deadly, but he has no defense (like he needs it with his heal ability)

Hattori Hanzo Yasunaga Jokannyudo of Iga

Yup hattori hanzo the first, many think Hanzo Masanari was the first but they are wrong, in fact its likely that Yasunaga wasnt the first either, but he was the first of note in history mentioned with the title. He was also called Jokannyudo of Iga, he served the Matsudaira clan of Mikawa who eventually produced the Tokugawa.

Hanzo makes opponents ninja expensive to play and yours cheap. Hes got good attack and defense and average life. He was older at this point so hence his lower vitality.

Shino u do realize u can only play one faction per game right lol so if u r going tokugawa then awesome.

There will be a secondary play option where u can mix factions as long as they share a family crest. But you get better bonuses for playing straight factions.

In extreme cases ill allow a mix but that doesnt work well cuz then you have persona issues, what if two ppl choose the same daimyo?

But for tournaments unless its a scenario its all faction or family crest.

Hence why i made 9 factions with at least 1 new faction each expansion planned. So there will be tons of play styles to choose from. Im so dying to play test this hence why ive been slow to do the next munisia lol.

Fujibayashi was one of the most famous of the Iga Lords, and while it was said he was the same person as Momochi sandayu this isnt true. It came from a novel,

Fujibayashi is a Ninja recruiter, he pulls ninja out like mad, hes balanced in all powers. Ashikaga focus on balance. They will be the most balanced and prolly easy to play faction.

He was leader of Odas Ninja forces. A Hachisuke Ninja they were samurai ronin who had become ninja to survive.

Kenpachi is strong on the attack and while at your castle can pull your non-unique ninja into your hand.

Kasumi Danjo Shadow of the Dragon

Danjo is mean, He makes enemy ninja -3 attack at the same site hes at and he prevents enemy ninja from deploying directly to your castle and taking out your daimyo. Which is the ninja's greatest strength.

Danjo is also very high in defense and has a great deal of vitality making him hard to kill but he is weak on attack. Hes a defense barrier just to protect kenshin.

Yes shino Uesugi has Kouga ninja, as do others such as Takeda.

Yes Kansuke did work as a ninja for Shignen before becoming Shingens chief strategist. And so he is the Lord of the Takeda Ninja.

Kasuke much like jubei had one eye and thus i just used jubeis pic drew and changed it a bit, when i do a card for jubei ill redraw em.

Kasuke has crazy defense. And he pulls tactic cards into your hand wich makes the Takeda a deadly force. Hes also good with attack but be careful/ He cant take any hits directly or hes toast. Best to slap some good armor on him and hide em at your castle.

Hichiya Sekinen Lord of the Nokizaru

The nokizaru were the Imagawa ninja and the Hachiya clan was in charge, much like the fuma and the hattori the hachiya leaders all inherited the name.

Sekinen is great on attack and defense but weak from old age. Ninja cant wear armor either so hes kinda a one hit wonder. But hes good to throw in just to cancel a characters game text like fuma kotaro and then use another bi dmg character to take em out.

Hes go decent att and great defense also hes more of a spy so he can view cards in your opponents hand.

So id like to announce i now am officially finished with 66 cards.

this means most of the unique characters are finished with full art and everything. Gonna start locations and items soon. But ill keep posting the characters here.

Next post will likely be a big post with all 9 Rare Daimyo.

he is the shoguns own sword instructor he is completely balanced stat wise he is worth dmg 3 where as a normal character is dmg 1 and he can heal 3 every draw phase without having to tap. Hes a very deadly addition to any deck.

Shino u gotta remember unless u r playing a free style game or clan game most games are played by faction. Tournys will be faction. Possibly clan but mainly faction. This means that you will only have a few ninja in a deck per faction. As u can see there iga ninja for ashikaga, tokugawa, miyoshi and saito, and theres koga for uesugi, imagawa, and takeda, fuma for hojo and hachisuka for oda as oda hated the iga and the koga and lead a war against them.

some of my personal favs and ones im proud of are Kinoshita Hideyoshi, unlike most depictions of him that always show em as a fool goofy lookin monkey guy i wanted to make em look more diabolical as he will one day be such, so in my depiction hes a little more hideous lookin. I mean for a dude who supposedly had 6 fingers on one hand and looked a monkey i imagine he woulda been pretty hideous.

also Kanemaki Jisai the pretty samurai came out well pretty but full of blood lust.

And of course Hikita Bungoro and Shinmen Munisai.

also Ronin are cool because they can be played by any Clan withut counting against the faction limit.

Here are the 3 Kengo, they are Very Rare, so it is extremely hard to get them, but they are the strongest characters in the game, were talkin the grand masters of the martial arts. the sword saints of their time.

the two most famous ninja warriors ever. Sasuke is wearing an anbu mask, while hanzo is in more traditional but cooler assassin spy outfit.

Hanzo seems week but he is the only ninja who can wear armor so that makes em much more stronger then most. Sasuke is slippery he can constantly be pulled back to your hand.

Ok so i had another lightning bolt strike my brain.

i will allow player custom cards but there will be rules.

And the players can level themselves up.

So here are two basic player cards

the players will choose from some images (im not gonna draw images for everyone lol but those in my clan r lucky ;) )

So u choose an image then choose a clan mon of the house u wish to be linked to.

Now all player cards will start off as a ronin, with 1 clan icon. The kanji means ronin btw. cuz ronin can be linked to any clan without the clan restriction penalty but they dont get the clan bonuses unless they r in the same house.

Now as you win tournaments u will get tourny cash, Ill think of a cooler name later.

Now u can spend that cash on either stat points or choose from game texts, Buy a faction mon, change your ryu style, buy titles, buy lore text ect.

Sound cool?

This isnt lords of chaos its the lords of the rising sun. I hold the copy right on this game thru the us patent office as im the one who is creating it, paying for it and drawing it. It is finished aside from a some images i need to still draw and scan and i still need to input it into a playable program but im in talks with a few companies now about it.

Hey , lettin ya know the ccg is alive and kicking and much closer to final product. I have suchiko now added to my art team and we are redesigning the game to be hopefully more in color and have a more anime style feel to it.

Dont worry ill also be doing anime art as well as some of my more realistic art for special versions of cards. So like the ones you have seen of fujibayashi nagato and yoshioka kempo and ashikaga yoshiaki will remain as they are.

While others will get a cool anime remake.

Blending the two i think will give the game an interesting depth and give it a more genuine japanese feel.

We also NEED someone with web design knowledge as we plan to open up our own website for the ccg and forum.

So here our first two remade cards.

We did a few of my favorites.

Also be sure to give SUCHIKO a huge hand, her art is just awesome, i normally dont like anime styles, well dont enjoy drawing them cuz ihave trouble with the spikey hair thing. But she just knocks it outta the park.

If your interested in helping with color, inking or art let me know. The game is done as far as templates, cards, text, ect ect, we are in art phase now.

Here are two new cards just finished for the game from the Imagawa clan. I changed the Imagawa template to a more noble offwhite instead of that pink template since im guessing the game will be played primarily by male players and most will prolly shun the pink samurai faction.

Plus the offwhite looks totally awesome on the card.

These are two of the heroes of the Imagawa clan, Ogasawara created his own fighting style that is still taught today and has evolved to include mastery over poetry and ethics among other things.

Ii Naomori was a valiant hero who killed many foes, his sons and grandsons went on to serve the tokugawa clan and became legendary in their own right.

Imagawa Ujizane was a pampered spoilled noble son of the daimyo imagawa yoshimoto. Ujizane did not have his fathers military mind but was a fine archer in his own right and possessed good athletic skills.

Working hard so dont worry more will be coming soon. Painting these and drawing them takes me time.

Would love for anyone who wishes to help with art be it coloring or drawing or whatever.

Here is the next batch. Miyoshi faction, one of my fav's cuz the miyoshi were just about as evil and sinister as the hojo. They actually brought the downfall of the ashikaga Shogunate and they had the services of the yagyu for a time. I used some of the profile avatars i made for some of my clan members to fill in some gaps, and dont worry guys i put u in the yagyu clan . Later i may change the images but for time constraints this will work for now.
