I just saw this today: Facist Australia? (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/10/15/australians-censor-internet)
National screening of content.
Can this be a good thing? Or, is it just plain bad?
I'm going with bad. For a Democratic nation to force restrictions can only lead to problems. (*cough* Patriot Act *cough*)
What are they actually trying to accomplish?

I can think of 125.8 million other and better things to use the money for but, to be honest it's gonna happen sooner or later (in Australia's case seemingly already happened) though i'm not surprised at all..
Nevertheless, good find :bigok:

It is happening, again: Bit Torrent this time. (http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Australia-bittorrent-filtering-censorship,news-3205.html)
I really hate this situation. As an Australian, i have always valued the fact that the country i live in and call home has always deemed a friendly and relaxed lifestyle first. Not in the sense where everything becomes easier, but instead the rules have never placed people in positions where they felt restricted or thought things were unfair. I enjoy the fact that in less then one year i will be able to go down with my dad to the pub and have a few beers. Its also good to know that people who cannot afford to support themselves or their families have help from the government.
If you want, its the things that separates this nation from others, primarily the USA.
I think that K-Rudd is perhaps too conservative for the nations good. Sure, all the eco-friendly policies he has introduced aren't too bad. He even gave pensioners money to spend during the economic crisis. But with the introduction of internet censorship i think it greatly takes away from things that make this nation great. A lot of people i beleive will feel that this is attack on a basic human right: freedom of speech.
This sucks.

Seems like the great wall of china has spread to australia....
Least it's a bit more effective than the british-rated system (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/29/AR2008122900987.html)
