I think we had a debate on this before.
Don't quote me, but i'm believe we're gonna have both, since the only difference between 3rd person and 1st person is position of camera...
sounds good cuz im a fan of 3rd person so ya :p

I prefer first person, also doesnt FPS stand for first person shooter? This game isnt gonna have guns I hope being as its based on the 1600's.
All though third person is good if WASD isnt usable. Is it going to be clicked based, or can I freely swing my weapon and such?
first person and swing a sword or fist is just awkward for me mostly cuz those types of game ends up givin me a headache cuz your view shakes so much but i think most ppl are used to first person cuz of games like oblivion but i keep thinkin that this will be a better version of 9dragons ><

yeah I think from what I have read its going to be a rotating third person perspective. I would like to know, is the format of this going to be like second life?

I didnt like 9dragons, it was very boring, just another cloche MMO. However ive never tried second life...Any good? I wanted to try entropia or whatever its called but the idea of inputing a credit card makes me nervous.

I would prefer a Third Person view (or at least the option to, if it's not default). I can't imagine fighting with a sword in a First Person view, with a gun, yes, it makes sense, but with a sword? That's just a little too historically accurate for my taste.
That, and maybe I'm mistaken, but wouldn't it be harder to code a First Person MMO, or is that just my naivety talking after experiencing only Third Person MMOs

The only rpgs ive every played that do the first person camera view is oblivion, however I prefer it in one on one battles, now third person is good but I want the ability to attack when I want and swing my blade randomly not have to click and my char attacks it just makes me bored...All I do is click and minimize read some thing come back the monsters dead, repeat the process till I finish whatever im reading=)

I have to go with third person. With the exception of shooters, I've never been a big fan of first person.

I believe the last feedback was that we were having the option of both.
Tatsumaki is not just a FPS. Combat will be a big part but not everything.
With the combat system, I think it would be easier (and more 'fun') to fight in first-person. Directional attacks in third person won't be as precise. First-person is realistic.
I'll still play Devil's Advocate with first-person in regards to theft.
Pickpockets will have a tough time approaching people if everyone walks around in third person. I would like to see manditory first-person in cities. You'll have to keep your belongs safe and look around in high population areas.
Maybe have a third-person safe zone where people can do group photo-ops?

I would like to see mandatory first person when there are neutral or hostile people/npcs near you. Maybe third person for crafting, resource gathering, travel, and training, but not for things such as guard duty, loitering, and battle, otherwise there would be no stealth.
Make it so that pockets can't be picked and necks can't be slit if you're up against a wall.
I agree with the first person arguments. However, I understand - albeit grudgingly - the want for a third person option.
When it comes to stealth in 3rd person, the only "quick fix" I can come up with involves statistics, which can get ugly. For instance: Simply not being able to see someone in stealth mode if they have the right stats vs. you.
Unfortunately, that's getting a bit like every other game. I would much prefer a first person perspective, where someone's stealth was quite literally their ability to sneak up behind you when you aren't looking in that direction.
It's something that certainly merits a lot of thought, and arguments from both sides are necessary.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but the first person perspective does open up a lot of fantastic and realistic options.
However, that brings me to something else, how accurate will the sound effects be? For instance, if I were on guard duty at some guy's estate, and I'm turned to the left looking in the trees, there's no way some punk in wooden sandals with jingling coins in his purse is going to sneak up on me from the right. I'm going to hear him coming from a mile away.
So, if the game is going to have first person view in the cities and during combat situations and what not, I would greatly appreciate the ability to hear what is coming up behind me. Or not, if the culprit moves carefully and swiftly while wearing soft shoes and quiet clothing. In real life, it's relatively hard to sneak up on anyone who is going to suspect it, I'd hope the same would apply to the game.

You have some good points, though I think I covered a few of them in the thread I started about stealth, you would have to put into perspective how a person is walking and what type of surface they're walking upon.

Actually, having thought about it after reading the last few posts, I'm changing my vote to first-person.
All of the things mentioned for it sound very interesting indeed. After discussing it with a couple of friends, it seems like if the fighting could be done well, and there were an inventory screen or something to where you could see your character so to ensure you're not looking like an idiot, it'd be a very welcome change...for me, anyway.
Edited to add thoughts.

I like third-person better. And with Tatsumaki, you could just have it so only characters and other things only appear on screen when they are in your character's field of view, with hints such as sound and maybe a blip on the screen if a person isn't being stealthy enough.

Maybe just allowing us to zoom out a tiny little bit, not like we're ten or twenty feet from our body but maybe just a foot or so.
Gheari: Similar to an over-the-shoulder zoom, a la Gears of War or Resident Evil 4?

Yes quite right Vahn.
I've come up with another idea, if you could make it so that when you move the mouse enough, you move the skeleton's head, and the camera, but not the entire body it would be just phenomenal.

Awesome. That remembers me the movements of Delta Force Black Hawk Down.... And Mercenaries, the only games I can remember that you only moved your head instead of turning your whole body...
I want both, or maybe the over-the-shoulder thing too. It is quite good to have some camera options like this... In fact, even in shooters I don't like the fpv(First Person View).
Is it too hard to code the 3 things?
Also I don't the whole boddy to disappear while you're in first person (Oblivion), instead only the "head disappear". I think I only saw this on Hitman... Seriously, To only see your arms while in fpv sucks, I want to see my feet too, it's quite more realistic, and I don't think it would have a big difference in normal third person view and this first person view codes'...

It should work just fine, you only have to find the right place for the camera node so you won't look at the head.
You know, basically cameras are just more nodes in your skeleton(at least in the systems I worked with... If T:LaW's working different, I'm sorry). So all you do is just talking about different positions for camera nodes.
