Hello,

I was just wondering does anyone have a system with nVidia's SLI technology yet? I ordered Asus motherboard with that technology just wondering if the extra video card is worth it. Also wondering about stability issues.

I dont own the system but the reality it wont be worth the extra money. There is little point owning two 6800 Ultras. What in a game like HL2 you get 200fps instead of 150fps. The fact is the 6800 hundred is so powerful anyway there is little point in owning two. Games dont even harness the complete power of this card. And when they can harness the power of two, there will be cards that can do the same in one. And on the issue of instead owning two 6600s it has been recorded that one 6800 Ultra is more powerful than dual 6600s. Beebe out.

Hello,

Cool, cool. Was just wondering about the stability. I plan to start with 1 6600 GT and upgrade to another later on if needed. 200-150 FPS on HL2 is a miracle in and of itself. Thanks for feedback.

Well... unless your wanting to use like tri or dupe screens and playing up to 3 hardcore games at once, you might need to 'consider' the dual cards. Other wise, your better off with an NVidia 5200 FX like me. About 90% of computer games these days olly require up to a 64 MB videocard, because not many people can be bothered to buy top of the range videocards. Instead they just buy a good CPU and LOADS of RAM.

Trust me, with 512 DDR2 RAM, a 2 GHz processer and an Nvidia 5 series videocard, you will be able to play just about any game with total ease.

Stability for SLI has improved over the months, however most games do not benifit from the extra power. HL2, Doom 3, and possibly the upcoming Age of Empires 3 would however 95% of current games will not. That being said, with current technology trends and the advent of the dual-core era, dual-core GPU cards are already in development and will be in productions I estimate in about a year. I find it pointless to invest in SLI yet as the technology is still new, however I'm not one to charge forth into buying the newest and greatest thing either.
