O.K., I know some of you live in Japan, and others have spent time there. Frankly, I miss being surrounded by the language, so I've taken to watching Japanese TV shows now and then. It feels silly sometimes, because not all the shows are geared towards adults. However, it's nice to hear the language. Most of the Japanese movies I own are period samurai pieces (or pre-1980s), and don't use "modern" language .
So, I thought I would list some of the Japanese TV shows that I've seen, and ask for some opinions on other good shows that I might try to find to watch.
Shows I've seen, all live action - not anime:
Densha Otoko
Gokusen Seasons 1 and 2
Hana yori dango
Kimi wa petto
Kurosagi
Nobuta wa Produce
Nodame Cantabile
Kurosagi and Nodame Cantabile are probably my favorites. Kurosagi, because con artists who only target con artists is just a fun idea, and Nodame Cantabile because I am a pianist, and I can relate.
I watched Densha Otoko because I knew the main character - he was in Battlefield Baseball
Gokusen caught my eye because it sounded like Great Teacher Onizuka with a female/Yakuza twist, which a friend made me watch while I was studying abroad in Ireland.
Kimi wa petto interested me mainly because the main character was an actress I knew from The Last Samurai, and her "pet" was an actor I knew from Gokusen and Hana yori dango.
Nobuta wa produce was a follow-up to Kurosagi, because they share the same actor.
So, in an effort to keep modern conversational Japanese around me now and then (it's expensive to call Japan everyday :P ...), I was wondering what other Japanese TV shows (preferably non-anime) are enjoyable?
