I visited my American friend, to sleep over ! But I'm not used to "Very Western Things" I come from a family that's very asian, and traditional!
So we were having fun in his garden, I taught him some martial arts, he made me kick some stuff and break 2 bricks.

When I firste entered, his house was asian-ish very much like our own, some differances though!

This is where you take your shoes off, but notice how it's not elevated!

He's also a slob, My shoes to the left, his to the right, he's got very big feet! !

The day passed by, we played some videogames! and then he made me kick some more stuff (He found it amazing that I could kick over his head..)

Then, dinner was serverd! In my family! we're very traditional, so we don't eat more than we Need too, and save the rest for other days if we can, so we don't waste it, so My bowl looks like:

But here, they were very western!! so their plates are Huge! and thats not the only thing thats huge! their portions of food are also HUGE!

I thought! how can I eat this much!? no wonder so many americans are big around the stomach! I can't eat all this!

After that, we spent the last day at his home (It's his summer home) and I went back to my house! with my small Bowls! and chopsticks! while he eats his Huge plate dinners! with forks! and sits down and watches tv!

Oh well, Thought I'd share it with you guys!

EDIT: if you get offeneded and think im saying "Americans eat too much", then that's not the point of this thread, I was pointing out that people in the west, and my american friend (even thought I clearly said, this is why americans are big around the tummy) It was meant more as a joke, than saying "you're fat".

Hahaha! Great pictures :) Where does your friend live?

The food looks quite good. I am an American, and while I practice martial arts, I probably eat similar portions as your American friend. I am definitely much larger than my girlfriend (she is Japanese) as well.

That said, while I was in Japan visiting my girlfriend I never went hungry. I ate the same portions she and her family ate, and the same portions that were served in restaurants, and was never hungry between meals. It is strange. We need more traditional Japanese restaurants here in Iowa.

Haha, i know what you mean. My family meals are always full of large servings, compared to my other friends. But then again, we do finish most of it. I sometimes wander why im not twice the size i am currently =p.

I hope you had fun with your mate Shiro haha, that rice looks good =].

Sorry, but I could likely eat both platefuls and stay as skinny as a rail.

I (European) usually eat once a day a small portion of food (french fries and some meat, what ever is on sale) i usually leave most of the food for my brother since he is athlete and needs it more than i do ^^'

In many european countries peple eat portions like that (Findland, Sweden, etc), most usually it depends on financial status though: the richer the country is the fatter the ppl are.
(this isnt 100% so, not all gypsys r thieves and not all japanese know karate, yet still u will more likely bump into karateka amongst japanese rather than around estonians)

It might look like curry, but it's not haha.

It's a Mexican soup, with sausage in it! and poured on rice.. his own clever idea.
