I started playing this mmorpg Ragnarok online. The graphics are definitely not a strong suit, but they made it that way on purpose. The first thing that drew me to it was seeing screenshots, it looked like final fantasy tactics graphics but better online.
Most of us in the West like America, Canada like this game cause of the nostalgic, classic rpg feel but its a mmo which makes it even better
:swordfigh
The gameplay is simple hack and slash but you get different cool abilities. Sort've like a diablo style but not really. As you advance you can become different classes. i.e. Swordsman, Archer, thief If you enjoy the old rpgs and that look and feel your definitely going to like this.
*Be warned once played may consume all social life*
:firedevil
Another great thing about the game is that its the perfect internet cafe game. Where you just sit down and play it for 1 or couple hours. A cool little feature that caught my eye is that whatever your real life gender is that is what you are in game. Its also downfall too but at least you'll know that, that "woodelf" wavin her thing around is a real girl. (There are no woodelves) The advancement in this game is much different from other mmorpgs, in that you'll still have fun at the low lvls.
*The thing I have to complain about is that the damn pubs don't sell beer. What rip off is that. Pubs supposed to add to the Rping but theres nothing to do there but talk to useless npcs.* there is beer in game but players sell it for ridiculous prices

I thought you were avidly against beer. XD
Most people don't really play iro anymore, they use private servers. They are free and you level much quicker on most of them.

I've played RO off and on during the years (I first played it when the original game was free ^ ^). Selmo is right though - a lot of the free servers are really fun. Personally, I think the crusader was my favorite job, and the best in my opinion. Not only did they look kickass, Grand Cross was a terrifying move (I think that was its name). One time I played I remember acquiring an eyepatch, which about 1 in every 10 people begged me for. :D Definately a game everyone should try out at least once in their lifetime.

I was recently playing on a private server, actually, just this weekend, I had to clear out of the RO stuff to make room for Shadowbane ( a sign I need a new PC, or at least a second hard-drive). The server was called CeresRO, it was pretty fun, and had open PVP once you reached level 90 (which was possible to do in under an hour, which is good, because being a novice for an hour of the official servers just sucks, plus all the good stuff comes with the 2-1 and 2-2 classes, as well as the transcended classes). I had a Bow-Stalker, my most powerful character, followed closely by my Combo-Monk (Asura spammers aren't fun to have around in an open PVP server, so I chose not to be that, for the sake of the children).
Shadowbanes been making me a little mad recently as they're not 100% clear on instructions, especially in terms of how to advance to a profession (where to go, what to do, etc.) and how to get off of the 'Noob-Island' and onto the main playing world. So, if that continues to anger me, I may drop Shadowbane and go back to RO, especially since the private servers are introducing the 2 new classes in a week or so. The Ninja and Gunslinger, both of which look very interesting. Ninja appears to take the path of an Assassin/Wizard/Hunter (only because they can use throwing weapons), could be very fun, and the sprites look cool. Gunslinger is sounding a lot like a cross between Hunter/Merchant, as many Gunslinger skills require coins (I don't know if it's actually Zeny, or coins you buy), and they use dex for their guns.
Anyways, Spike, if you don't want to pay or grind I suggest you take a look at the Ragnarok list at xtremetop100 (http://www.xtremetop100.com/) .

Wow, I appreciate it. Sweet pvp servers, they don't have those for the official servers. PvP in my top things I have to have in a mmo
Is there free servers like this for shadowbane that I can try out?

I don't know, I never really looked into it, you can level up really fast in Shadowbane though, if you go in a group(i was in a big one, i don't know if small ones give you xp bonuses), you can get like 5 levels in 15 minutes, depending on what monsters you're fighting...

Guys, not to be a party pooper on anything, but do you really think its best to be talking about - and linking to - private servers?
I mean, you ARE going to pay for Tatsumaki, aren't you? :P

my friends kept talking about RO, so one day I finally download and install it.
not even 1 hour into playing:
[Server shutdown for Pay to Play service implementation in 30 minutes]
*lots of channel chat of goodbyes for people who didn't have money or didn't intend to pay*

And I just never got around to playing it.

That's pretty weird that private server would go Pay2Play, considering that kind of makes it extra-illegal, considering they're using a companies game to make money, mind you this money was probably mostly all going to server fees and such.
You could always try out one of the other many private servers, they don't go P2P very often, in fact, yours is the first case I've heard of it.
And in regards to Raku's post, yes I do intend to pay for Tatsumaki, unless I end up disliking it through-out the beta experience. I'll also keep in mind that the beta won't be the final release, and it can change for the better, that's why I'll play it through to the end ( assuming the last week or so of Beta would be identical to the official release. ), and if I find it's not so great, I'll just not play. I doubt there'd even be any private-servers anwyays, as Tatsumaki's not really a big company produced MMO like RO is, so it probably won't be popular enough for people to make private servers (no offence intended to the developers/eoe team).

It won't be possible to make emulators ('Free' servers) for Tatsumaki for a few reasons:
1) There will always be a (limited) free version
2) We're making it incredibly hard to decrypt packets, and will constantly change the encryption
3) If we spot anyone running an emulator we're doing everything we can to shut it down. Theres just no reason for Tatsumaki to have an emulator out there :p

Well, apparantly RO is being released on the NDS, which I've always believed would be a good console for RO to be ported to, if someone could translate this website, we could get more information about it.
Also, according to many RO players at onrpg.com, RO reload cards, which are like, reloadable game play cards, are all set to expire on Sept.30 2006. Some suggest this means that RO may go F2P, while others think it may be the end of RO (Which is a rather ridiculous thought, as they're about to introduce a series of awesome updates to iRO eg. Taekwon, Ninja, Gunslinger. ). I'd actually consider playing on the official servers if it went F2P, but private servers are just so much more fun, especially since you can get transcended classes in 45 min., and you don't even have to go on some crazy long quest for them.
Anyways, I hope SOMEONE can translate that page.
*note, there's an image that says 'Image "Fake"', I'm thinking that it's not 'fake' in the sense that someone's made it to try to make the whole RO-DS idea seem more real, but rather as a concept/idea of what the game may look like, though I believe if it's true, the game would be on the lower screen, because that's where all the touching/pointing-and-clicking would occur.

Heh, one more reason DS kicks the PSP's butt. Anyway, here is a direct translation thanks to Google:
Or days ago they filtered what they could be the first images of an adaptation to Nintendo DS of the Game of massive roll online or MMORPG Ragnarok Online, one of the ships Korean standard of the the most played Gravity Corporation and one of of the last years anywhere in the world. Although one was "fake" or false images, it seems that the dreams of the creators of that work are of enhorabuena. For delight of the followers of the popular title and specially to assure the sales more Nintendo DS the Korean company has kept awake by means of the Japanese publication Famitsu its next project: Ragnarok DS.
Little it is known at the moment of the title, unless a complete adaptation of the original game will be a priori. The tactile one will have limited use, to show maps generally, and will use the functions of the PictoChat to chatear and to draw icons. It will allow to play until a total of 128 people of simultaneous form - in way Online -, and we suppose that it will distribute to the users in different servants in case of surpassing that number. We will have million personalización possibilities, new missions and more professions. The first juiceable version will be in E3 2006 of May.

Well, I can't wait for E3 to hear more about this, one thing that confuses me though:
The 'It will allow play until a total of 128 people of simultaneous form' comment. Is it saying that only 128 people will be able to play per server or per map or what? I really don't understand that.
