Taifuunome directly translated means "the eye of the typhoon or hurricane". It also has an implied meaning of eye of the storm. Since the translation of tatsumaki is tornado and since the setting will be Feudal Japan, and there will be constant battles for land/power/feuds, we thought it would be a good idea to have a contrast to this constant conflict. In the eye of the storm that is Feudal Japan, is our family - Taifuunome.
Taifuunome is a Buddhist sect, which is based on the Pure Land Sutra of Buddhist scripture. Much like the Shaolin temples, our teachings are derived from the Bodhidharma. Bodhidharama was a Buddhist monk around the 6th Century AD. He taught monks a series of movements and exercises later adapted to martial arts called Gung Fu. Bodhidharma taught that martial arts should be used for self-defense, and never to hurt or injure needlessly. In fact, it is one of the oldest Shaolin axioms that "one who engages in combat has already lost the battle." Martial arts as self-defense and only self-defense is one of the main principals of our family. The lack of foes in our travels will allow us to use our time to train and attain the utmost knowledge of martial arts.
Compassion is the highest and most noble traits of mankind, followed by the search for wisdom. We embody this philosphy. Our objectives are simple:
Help other members of the family: strengthen the fortitude of the family.
Become stronger: spiritually, physically, and mentally.
Betters ourselves though: training (making a well rounded citizen and family member), pursuing arts, Buddhist teachings, and martial arts.
To help those outside our family in need: provide shelter for those in need, provide healing after combat to those in need (without discrimination), and to provide food to those in need (novices <noobs> or those new to the game).
To use martial arts to solve conflict only as a last resort.
To continue to better ourselves, and each other through learning from the actions of others.
There will be monks/priests/priestesses and also layman members. Because of this, some members might live in the monastery, and some will live in their own dwellings. We also plan to have more than one monastery as time progresses, and each one will focus on a different facet of the family. One monastery might teach healing, while the next might teach calligraphy and cultural arts. Monks and priests will be given special status in the family, and will take vows in accordance with this.
We accept members from any walk of life, though only those that have proven themselves to the family, either through selfless actions, or going beyond what expected of them will attain rank.
We have no enemies or allies, and we stay neutral in all conflicts. By upholding the laws of virtue our path will take us where we need to be, and help our family thrive amidst the death and destruction we live. Members so far: Myself, Yukie, and Slots.
