My interest in music is wide, and varies. I like rock, hiphop, alternative, whatever i see fitting. If i had to choose one though, it would have to ultimately be Trance. I am so crazy about it, the rhythm, the relaxation, the beat, the whole thing about it is great.
My favorite artist would have to be Dj Tiesto - Dutch(i think), number 1 dj running for 3 years in a row, has over 15 albums, including the famous "In Search of Sunrise" series.
But other than that, i am interested in many types of music, alternative, rap, dance, oldies, jazz, classic. But there is one exception, country, i cannot stand country at all, for some reason, it drives me crazy.

Yes you are right he is dutch, and he is number 1 on the DJ list, he is brilliant i would have to say, great DJ. Beebe out.

I unintentionally listen to mostly folk rock. No, I don't stalk about looking for bands classified as folk rock, its just that most of the bands I listen to have been called folk rock at some point and time.
My favourite band remains Moxy Fruvous, although I don't listen to them so much anymore. Its more loyalty than anything else. The Decemberists deserve all of my love, as they seem to be perfect to me (Whores, pirates, cannibals, gypsies, little dead children from the 1800's? Oh, drool! Also; accordion. These guys are perfect). Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal and The Mountain Goats are also held in incredibly high esteem.
I tend to throw in a bit of newfoundland music (Great Big Sea, Ennis Sisters, Irish Descendants) and some other stuff that I'm not really sure what you'd classify it as (Deerhoof, Circulatory System).
I usualy can't stand the radio, but I managed to find an, uh, interesting radio show. Its on from 12am to 4am. I managed to find it by searching for any station, and finding one with completely random crap. Beautiful colours, I left it there. Mind you, I wake up to classical music. And just before Brave New Waves is a jazz show. I have to admit, I love radio two. After a while I got off my ass and found out what the radio show was, and realized it played most of the bands I listen to. So now it essentially owns my soul.
Also; yes, I have a love for jazz and classical as well. I can't stand rap or country. I can give country a chance if I wanted, but rap literally makes me ill.

I also like other kinds of music as well as listen to soundtracks and classical.

Ive got a question, how do you choose your music?
Based on sound, rhythm, or lyrics?

Alice in Chains
Bob Marley
led zeppelin
Loreena McKennitt

all of the above. I need it to be well rounded in order for me to invest my time and money into something. But i would have to put lyrics at the top of th needs list. If a song has piss poor writing or the lyrics are annoying it doesnt matter how good the song is, i wont listen to it. Where as if a song has great lyrics, but midiocre music i may still tolerate it...

What no Cake, They Might be Giants , or Presidents of the United States of America? Those guys are among my favorites.
Favorite styles include alternative things like those, some straight edge punk like Five Iron Frenzy, assorted ska, classic rock, and some classical usually adapeted from video game scores. Techno isnt out, but a little goes a long way. Some softer stuff like Drops of Jupiter by Train. Cant forget the Red HotChili Peppers either.
As for what I look for, usually a good melodic line or anything that sounds kinda different. Not much into the base thumping kinda music.

I mean, uh.
I don't listen to these bands regularly, but I tend to have a fondness towards them.
Now, I will introduce you to RAS, because I think you might enjoy them. It. Whatever.
RAS actually stands for request-a-song (http://www.request-a-song.com/). You send in the title of a non-existing song, and if it inspires them they write and record it.
Violent House Panda (http://www.request-a-song.com/songs/viewsong.php?songid=48) and Butterghost (http://www.request-a-song.com/songs/viewsong.php?songid=25) tend to be favourites. One inspired by me - Underground Trees (http://www.request-a-song.com/songs/viewsong.php?songid=115).

LOL, dude, music stands for many things, from what i know:
Rap/HipHop - Love, making love(you know what i mean?), and the gangster life, and stuff. This is to represent the lifestyle of modern day person who is related to gangs, and stuff. Dont know how you guys have it at Aussie, but you dont really hear it much from here now(California). Nowadays, its more like the rapper(guy/girl) is talking how they want the lover back, or how they miss each other, or LOL How they are gonna make love to the other. Basically, its a ghetto love song.
Rock/Alternative - Mostly its about the average life of a teenager, or even the different emotions of a person. For example, do you notice that Linkin Park focuses on shouting, and hating a specific person? And how Evanesance is about a lost person, who seeks their lovers to guide them? Basically, Rock is about being free, or hating someone, or wanting to be independant.
I understand that most people refuse to listen to other types of music because they dont understand it, and judge it before they get a chance to. But still, i stick with what i say about Country - DOWN WITH COUNTRY!!! :chairshot

Rap - I can't help but think Fresh Prince of Bel Aire.
Country - I'm middle aged and my wife left me and took my truck. And my dog. Also; I have a very sweet little girl.
I hate genres.

Yup you used 'or' twice... Believe was misspelled, and you pointed out three reasons so you would use are instead of 'is'.

Yes, yes it does :D
And I love the Beastie Boys because they're hilarious, and they make their own brand of rap. A lot of rap is the same thing over and over and over... drugs, sex, pimp, hoes, money... wow, that hasn't been covered a billion times. But somehow it's still the recipe for success.
One of the few other rap song's I like is called Fett's Vette... yes, it's about Boba Fett, and it has classical music in the background :D

I think 40%ish of what i listen to is jazz from the 40s 50s and 60s or old school rap, the other 60% is basicaly everything but country...BTW all the people here that say rap sucks, thats because what your listening to isnt rap, its pop music with a synthetic rap coating.

What I seriously dislike is today's mainstream "gangsta" rap. It's all basically the same, and it's not very creative or good. An extremely simple beat combined with cussing does not equal music in my mind.

Hello,
My favorite type of music used to be rap/hip hop, but I grew out of that. What I listen to mostly now is rock/rock alternative. Favorites are Sound Garden, Audio Slave, Stone Temple Pilots, System of a Down, Alice in Chains, Jain's Addiction, Korn, anything that sounds good isn't too rough. I like funk and R&B from the 60-70's too. Really almost any genre is ok, just nothing too dark or obscure. I think for this game I'll try to find some oriental based fantasy music to play in the background.

I love so many types of music that I'm not sure where to start. I like everything. Opera, Irish, Trance, Italian, Tatu, Celtic, etc....
I love all kinds except for the country music you hear nowadays. I love fiddle music because I love to get out my violin and start fiddling. I hated it at first, but I soon grew to love it because it's so difficult to play. I really hate country, there are some exceptions though. My first period teacher loves country music and she tortures the class by putting it on every single school day.
I love the gypsy type of music that was from the Transylvania area. Their music is so expressive, considering I'm a folk dancer, I totally love it.
I like classical, but I only love the dude who wrote the 'Nutcracker,' Wolfgang Mozart, Bethoveen, and Bach. I like Barouqe music also.
I listen to rock and metal from time to time. It's okay. My favorites are Linkin Park, 3 Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Korn, Limp Bizkit, and others.
I like the Bag pipes. My school is McLane and we're the Highlanders. During our rallys, the scottish dancers would dance and the pipers would play. My favorites are The Ribbon Dance, Rakes of Mallow, Dance of Broadswords and Scotland the brave. I'm thinking of joining the Highlanders this year and probably joining the Cheer.
I have a love for Cantopop too. My favorite personally is the Twins. I love their first song of their album Twins Magic. It's funny and about fighting.
I love these chinese band of twelve girls. I think they're called the Twelve Girls Band. I like their music because it combines ancient chinese instruments with modern day music. It's great. My favorite are Shangri La and Reel Round the Sun.
Traditional japanese tunes are really good with me because my favorite style of dancing are ancient tradional dances of Japan. I really like the Kagura. It tells a story about a Japanese diety. Chinese traditional music is good too because I dance Chinese also. I love to dance with fans, umbrellas, bells, and cloth.
Last but not least, I love J-pop and listening to soundtracks from games and anime. My favorite artists are Hikaru Utada, Ayumi Hamasaki, Yuki Kajiura, and lots more. I love listening to the .hack//SIGN OST, Fruits Basket: Memories for You, Nadesico, Lost Universe, Slayer Try Vox, Xenosaga II, Growlancer, Final Fantasy VII, X, and X-2 OST, and a whole bunch more.

Power Metal

Progressive Rock/Metal

- Queensryche
Miscellaneous
- Blue Sky Theory (post-apocalyptic rock)
- godspeed you! black emperor (defy genre description, as far as i'm concerned)
- some J-Rock (very loose term) along the lines of X-Japan, hide, fra-foa, Malice Mizer, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant
The bands listed are basically my favorites in their respective genres.
