We have ditched Flashchat, and have decided to enforce our IRC channel. You can access it by clicking on this link (http://www.eoeforums.com/chat_simple.php), or the link at the top of this forum.

From there, you have a choice to either access the channel with your own client or with the inforum java applet.

Enjoy :)

(I'm on a campus network.)

I get the following:
Connecting...
Unable to connect : java.net.SocketException : Software caused connection abort: connect

This just me, or are other people getting the same?
edit: (After seeing Moses's reply, maybe it's just me.)

Your campus probably blocks IRC :(
I'll find an alternative for you... :-)

If Moses says it's good, it's gotta be ok. I will miss Flash Chat, it served us well.

Okay, I added an alternative version - check the Chat page again and tell me if it works.

alright, i've been getting this error in my client and in the forum version.

Connecting...

As a security countermeasure, all clients connecting from *@*.comcast.net are now required to give a valid ident response on connect. If you use mIRC, open mIRC options, select Connect -> Identd -> Enable Identd server. You may also need to unblock external/internet port 113 in your software or hardware firewall and/or forward it..

Toshi... You may want to read the messages before you post them:

And sun: I have no idea whats wrong, you may try downloading mIRC from www.mirc.com, and connecting using the information on http://www.eoeforums.com/announcement.php?f=15&announcementid=2 .

Thanks.

I'm not worried about it, personally. Just wanted to see if things worked in case others (on various campuses) were having problems.

Sykoi its nothing to do with the programs used to access IRC, its the ports that the campus has open. Personally, my campus blocks all ports over 6000 (it might be lower) and since i frequented a private IRC server, they opened up like port 3000 for me... dunno if the ports for quakenet go that low...

I vote we use an irc server that doesn't totally blow.

1. I know that its the ports, but CGI:IRC connects on port 80 (Or should) for the client
2. We're using Quakenet for now because Stratics won't hold a developer chat for us :p
3. FC Lagged the server horribly, as well as most clients... :p
Not to mention the fact you can idle in IRC and not even notice it... Which is a good thing.
