Are we sure he actually killed the other person in real life? They said 'a player killed another player', it's possible he could've just killed him in the game, and the death sentence is in the game...(yeah, dumb theory.)

But, yeah, some of the chinese people are very violent, like I've seen videos of 'nerds' in china getting beat down by the majority of their class just for being a nerd, and the teachers don't seem to do anything about it...

...stuff like that could lead to these 'nerds' becoming very violent/disturbed people and I wouldn't find it unreasonable if the gamer who killed the other was one of these kids who gets beaten up at school, or maybe it's one of the people that does the beating, they get so aggresive.

Not saying everyone in China is violent, but in these cases, the people were very violent.

I dunno, I was jumped and violently beaten all throughout my gradeschool career, teachers did nothing, eventually I started fighting back because I realized it detoured atleast half of the group. I don't know exactly but I think I turned out just fine, I haven't tried to kill anyone nor do I ever get the urge.

Um... this is quite scary. Time to upgrade the good ol' tin foil hat once again. Thank god I don't live in China. Although I don't even play online games.

But come to think of it, just like squidge37, this really is necessary, atleast in Asia. For example when japanese become fond of something, then they come really obsessed with it. This one guy (he was Korean, but anyway) played starcraft for 50 hours (if I remember correctly) straight, almost without eating and drinking until he collapsed on the netcafe floor, dead. This system would have saved his life.

I think I made myself clear. Over and out.

Seriously.. thats too many deaths being blamed on games, we definately have to find a way to take away the stress of gaming or something....

I saw this one article about a group of boys going out with automatics and semi automatics, stealing a car, and driving around killing people... Grand Theft Auto was blamed. Actually they made a tv special about it... commercialism bah. Crazy people are crazy, you can't go around blaming a game for their actions, it just justifies what they did.

nah, you want a bad gaming experience then you wanna look at lineage in korea... korean gangsters loved the game too... and when they got killed in-game they would find where the player who killed them accesses the game from and takes them out of the LAN center and beats them... sometimes to death...

there have been dozens of documented cases of asasult set off by pvp in the game... and about a dozen cases where the victim was killed... and thats from lineage, im not even getting into the other MMO and gaming fatalities...

i mean, when people commit suicide because of a game its not the fault of the game, its the gamer for making himself so dependant on that reality...

the stuff about GTA killings... thats just ridiculous... the people that commit those crimes were going to commit those crimes regardless of whether they did it in GTA style, tenchu style, or matrix style... they lacked the intelligence to come up with their own crime so they took someone else's

games are at fault in something like 5% of fatalities surrounding games... the rest are just mentally unstable players

I didn't say that it was for sure the reason, I just said it COULD lead to them being unstable people. Getting beat down on a regular basis can have different effects on different people. Just because you didn't turn out messed up doesn't mean it can't happen to others.

This puts T:LaW at risk, one this is a very realistic game, two open PVP.. now i would like to make it clear that, getting a Katana is a lot easier then getting a gun. To say the least, if we get unstable players.. well that could turn out pretty bad. Like glow was saying games dont make people do things, they do them of there own free will and just arnt creative. Thats one of the reasons i dont like to engage in PVP if i can help it.

Especially with realistic death penalties... I think dying once and a while would be tolerable, but anyone would get upset pretty fast if one group of people constantly killed them over and over. If we use the "injury induced sleep" method, it would be pretty easy to camp the hospital of that town. Maybe we should think about some way to prevent this?

Actually Kiros, I was being completely mature and serious about it, I don't find murder humorous at all. I'd like to note that after the "joke" I followed it up with my thoughts, that this IS a sad world we live in, and I don't perticularly enjoy it. My post had meaning, you chose to ignore it.

You being so ignorant, I can make the inferance that you take light of this topic BECAUSE of your reply, i dont claim to know you at all, also i will add that of what ive seen on the forums, i hope that i never know you that personally, now for the sake of keeping this thread on topic, fing stop. If you want to argue do it somewhere else.

I just couldn't let this go.

This is a very serious problem, especially with recent crusades against gaming; situations like this can bring the industry to its knees, if detractors just said the word. Link's post? Frankly, it's only "innappropriate" if taken out of context and seen as a childish joke. Truth is, it really brings into stark reality what's essentially happening here: something ridiculous happens in a video game ("If you don't donate your points to me, I'LL KILL YOU ALL ... J/K! LOLZ!!!1!!1!11!!one!") and tragically, someone takes it too far and injures or takes the life of another human being. I think Link illustrated fairly well how absolutely silly it is, by pretty much saying bluntly what these people are dying over.

As far as i'm concerned, if you're offended by it, that's absolutely not Link's problem; it's because you took it out of context and chose to be offended by it. I personally very much dislike these occurances of "video game violence" and Link's comment, like i said, pretty much cut right to the heart of the matter; it's a sad world when people kill over such a thing.

Link, you're the first person i ever donated points to, as well. Use them wisely.

did anyone hear of the guy who killed himself cause he found out the plot of harry potter #6 like 2 days before it was released? in his suicide note it said he had nothing left to live for... *sigh* and the guy was like 28.

Wow thats interesting but honestly I think the kid had to have had some mental stability problems. If the video games where the things that drove them to do it it would be much more common.

Some one who killed someone for robbing them online deffinatly had mental instability and lost control of reality/virtual world which was entirly due to his own thoughts.

As my friend once said and I have posted this in a similar thread
"Video games dont drive you to kill people, Look at me i play madden all the time and i still suck at football"

Kuzukago
08-26-2005, 05:58 PM
Yeah, what it really comes down to is that the individuals in each situation have obvious instabilities. It's not meant to be rude or degrading, it's just how it seems to be. I love graphic sex and violence in all of my media, be it written, visual, or interactive, and i haven't raped or murdered anyone (nor do i plan to). It's a sad fact, but some people just can't handle it.

yeah Moses thats true, books have the same problems, and movies too.
It's sad that people single out video games because most forms of entertainment mediums have this going on.

Yes I agree with Tatsumaki being at risk of these kinds of incidents, game have been becoming more realistic as the years progress and sparks false power in the minds of some. Going out and killing someone in real life if a farcry from taking someones life in game, in real life there are no resets or do overs. This is pure idiocy to harm someone over a video game, personally I dont think games would effect people judgement but also there are people who have bad mental state and whatnot. Anyway the fact that people would kill for some pixels and stats from a game in real life is the epidemy of senselessness. Get off the computer for a while and go get a tan or go read a book. Its not very healthy to sit at a computer all day.

What a bunch of nutcases. Who would do such stupid things. It's a video game. What a shame, some people can't even control themselves, or think straight.
